How this score was computed
The VGC Score is a weighted blend on a press-comparable 0-100 quality scale. Steam approval rates are first calibrated (95% positive on Steam ≈ 89.5 quality, since Steam approval skews high). Press and tracked creator reviews each count ~2x a player review and share one cap against player evidence (creator buy/skip calls pool into an approval rate, calibrated like Steam approval); all-time sentiment is capped and halved (it's context, not verdict); reviews of the current build carry the most weight when a fresh patch anchors the window; and a 'typical game' prior keeps small samples from pegging the scale. Because press reviews and Metacritic user aggregates describe the launch build, their weight decays as the game ages (3-year half-life after a 1-year grace). That's how a game that launched rough can outgrow its old reception once updates win players over. Reviews under 2h playtime (the refund window), non-Steam activations, and free copies are downweighted.

| Metacritic user ratings | – | – | 0 |
| Post-patch Steam reviews (trust-weighted) | 100% | 97 | 1 |

“Rage of the Dragons Neo is a peach of a game. Plucked from the Neo Geo library, it's been brought back to life with a smooth online experience and a comprehensive package stuffed with bonuses. It's not for everyone, and don't be surprised if you get beasted online initially, but for those willing to eke out the depths of its tag team strategy and combo extension methods, it's a furious, flashy, adrenaline-fuelled affair that looks great, sounds great, and plays even better.”

“A fighter with some great character designs and amazing combos, but you’ll need to invest some time to get to that level”

“Rage of the Dragons is not only a great successor to what would have been a great Double Dragon fighter, but it almost plays like one of the best SNK games out there. It’s a colorful and vibrant Neo Geo game that while got a lot of love back in the day, the limited reach it had back then is over. While we are eating good for fighting games in 2024, Rage of the Dragons is a solid snack that you should certainly add to your buffet of great titles this year. With solid character designs, gorgeous pixel art, and a deep and rewarding combat system, there is a lot to like here and get lost in.”

“Rage of the Dragon NEO is a challenging arcade-style fighting game that boasts a roster of unique fighters. With no crossplay option, online battles are hard to find.”

“his re-release offers genre fans a chance to rediscover a cult classic with a fresh coat of polish and some excellent quality of life features. If you’re up for a challenge, Rage of the Dragons NEO is more than worth the fight. The casual fighting gamer may be better of with other newly released fighters like Pocket Bravery or seek out ways to play more mainstream NEO GEO genre highlights like Garou: Mark of the Wolves or one of King of the Fighters games.”

“Overall, Rage of the Dragons NEO is an interesting and unique game in many ways. That said, however, the lack of content combined with the game's price makes it a hard recommendation. The characters and the gameplay are cool, but they aren’t enough to justify the value of the game. Now, if you are a fan of old NEO-GEO fighting games like King of Fighters, this game might be right up your alley. If you can find this game on sale, it’s worth checking out.”

“A classic 2D fighter has now been given a second chance on PS5”

“Rage of the Dragons NEO sets itself apart with its distinctive combat system and strategic use of walls, allowing players to fully enjoy the game both online and offline. Those already familiar with fighting games will appreciate its accessible combo system and intuitive controls, making it easy to pick up. However, the game lacks sufficient accommodations for beginners, which may make it challenging for players unfamiliar with the genre. While it may not have the same level of recognition as major fighting games, its historical significance as the first Neo Geo fighting game developed in South America, combined with its solid gameplay mechanics, makes it a title well worth experiencing for fighting game enthusiasts.”

“Rage of the Dragons NEO is not a bad fighting game and the port work done by QUByte Interactive couldn't be better. However, the game itself is worth checking it out just out of curiosity.”

“Rage of the Dragons feels like a solid port that stands on its own as a niche title in the tag team fighting game. One which couldn't have chosen a better time to for a re-release in the year of the genre's resurgence.”

“While Rage of the Dragons NEO packs a steep learning curve, this fighter greatly rewards those that put in the effort. The team at QUByte Interactive gave plenty of love to Rage of the Dragons NEO, making it the definitive way to play this cult classic.”

“Rage of the Dragons NEO really is an excellent fighting game from its time, and all the work to bring it back is welcome, be it for curious individuals or genre enthusiasts. Unfortunately, the absence of crossplay is a notable absence, which makes it more fun for those who will play it alone or locally.”
