How this score was computed
The VGC Score is a weighted blend on a press-comparable 0-100 quality scale. Steam approval rates are first calibrated (95% positive on Steam ≈ 89.5 quality, since Steam approval skews high). Press and tracked creator reviews each count ~2x a player review and share one cap against player evidence (creator buy/skip calls pool into an approval rate, calibrated like Steam approval); all-time sentiment is capped and halved (it's context, not verdict); reviews of the current build carry the most weight when a fresh patch anchors the window; and a 'typical game' prior keeps small samples from pegging the scale. Because press reviews and Metacritic user aggregates describe the launch build, their weight decays as the game ages (3-year half-life after a 1-year grace). That's how a game that launched rough can outgrow its old reception once updates win players over. Reviews under 2h playtime (the refund window), non-Steam activations, and free copies are downweighted.
| Component | Positive | Quality (0-100) | Weight (pseudo-reviews) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Press reviews (OpenCritic) | – | 82 | 61 |
| All-time Steam reviews | 97% | 93 | 1000 |
| Metacritic user ratings | – | 78 | 21 |
| Post-patch Steam reviews (trust-weighted) | 97% | 93 | 134 |
| Calibration prior (typical game) | – | 72 | 50 |
Acclaim gate: the raw blend lands at 91.3, but scores above 88 must be earned in front of a mass audience; this verdict rests on 9,575 player reviews, a largely self-selected fanbase. As more players weigh in, the ceiling rises (full scale unlocks at 100,000 reviews).

“As a puzzle game, Is This Seat Taken? isn’t terribly difficult, but that’s not the point. It’s a cozy puzzle game with a wholesome story, and that’s exactly what I needed. In a fast-paced, stressful world, it’s nice to have something more laid-back, which brought a smile to my face.”

“All in all, Is This Seat Taken is solid pick-up-and-play puzzler. It may not do anything new or unique, but the condition-meeting gameplay loop is primed for anyone after a low-stakes distraction. It won't keep you occupied for hours on end, but it'll do an almighty job of reminding you that your seating preferences are not to be scoffed at.”

“Is This Seat Taken? is a charming logic puzzle game that can be beaten in just a few hours. The entirety of its playtime is enjoyable, with a touching little story and great difficulty curve that builds up to some real challenge towards the end. With no real penalty for taking it slow, though, the game can still be beaten and the story experienced even by non-puzzle fans.”

“All in all, I really enjoyed my time with Is This Seat Taken? I think it’s the perfect little puzzle game and it’s very unique in style for the type of game it is. Sometimes similar scenarios reappeared with small differences and I would’ve personally preferred something different each time. Anyone who’s looking to relax but also work their brain a little bit will be in for a treat with this game. It’s a great price, too!”

“Some minor quality-of-life ideas aside, Is This Seat Taken is a relaxed game filled with generally pleasant logic puzzles. Is it as difficult as I would have liked? No. However, the experience is so pleasant and the concept is so strong that I felt fine with not being really pushed to work out complex solutions. The concept is great. It looks quite stylish. It’s just fun. ”
