How this score was computed
The VGC Score is a weighted blend on a press-comparable 0-100 quality scale. Steam approval rates are first calibrated (95% positive on Steam ≈ 89.5 quality, since Steam approval skews high). Press and tracked creator reviews each count ~2x a player review and share one cap against player evidence (creator buy/skip calls pool into an approval rate, calibrated like Steam approval); all-time sentiment is capped and halved (it's context, not verdict); reviews of the current build carry the most weight when a fresh patch anchors the window; and a 'typical game' prior keeps small samples from pegging the scale. Because press reviews and Metacritic user aggregates describe the launch build, their weight decays as the game ages (3-year half-life after a 1-year grace). That's how a game that launched rough can outgrow its old reception once updates win players over. Reviews under 2h playtime (the refund window), non-Steam activations, and free copies are downweighted.

And with a game that is more accessible than previous Suda 51 games, Romeo is a Dead Man is a taste you should take.”

“Romeo Is a Dead Man is a stylized, third-person action joyride with fun, albeit repetitive, combat. Boss fights are diverse, with a great soundtrack and interesting designs. Cutscenes and upgrading both diverge from standard practice in the best way, oozing with style to stand apart from other offerings.”

“Romeo is a Dead Man is certainly a unique game; its style is hard to find in other titles of the genre, and the boldness with which it presents unconventional narrative choices and gameplay elements makes it truly one of a kind. However, certain flaws prevent it from becoming the standout title it could have been, and so even though it comes close to greatness, thanks to a nice variety in gameplay, it unfortunately fails to make the leap needed to be one of Suda51’s best games.”

“Some people are going to give this game a shot and bounce off it hard, and I think that’s valid. But I think that if you enjoy the game it’s going to be something you keep coming back to, and it’s definitely a game I would encourage people to buy on Steam because if you decide it’s not for you, hey, you can figure that out within the refund window. It’s either going to be very much not for you or very much for you, and I think some people are going to realize that this is their game in a way they wouldn’t have if it hadn’t sort of swept in from nowhere.”
