How this score was computed
The VGC Score is a weighted blend on a press-comparable 0-100 quality scale. Steam approval rates are first calibrated (95% positive on Steam ≈ 89.5 quality, since Steam approval skews high). Press and tracked creator reviews each count ~2x a player review and share one cap against player evidence (creator buy/skip calls pool into an approval rate, calibrated like Steam approval); all-time sentiment is capped and halved (it's context, not verdict); reviews of the current build carry the most weight when a fresh patch anchors the window; and a 'typical game' prior keeps small samples from pegging the scale. Because press reviews and Metacritic user aggregates describe the launch build, their weight decays as the game ages (3-year half-life after a 1-year grace). That's how a game that launched rough can outgrow its old reception once updates win players over. Reviews under 2h playtime (the refund window), non-Steam activations, and free copies are downweighted.

“Featuring well-known kids show characters, unfortunately animated in a style that’s a little off, there’s at least enough core play here to be of interest for families or fans”

“The $50 price tag is only going to apply to diehard Nickelodeon fans. Casual gamers aren’t going to get a ton of enjoyment. If the levels had more going on, or the price was closer to $20, Dice of Destiny would have been an easy recommend. In its current state, it’s a good game at best.”

“Nicktoons and The Dice of Destiny successfully delivers a charming, visually appealing action-RPG for the franchise's dedicated fans and younger audiences. While its simplistic gameplay and repetitive quest structure might leave seasoned RPG players wanting more, the sheer fun of seeing your favorite Nickelodeon heroes in their fantasy roles makes this a worthwhile, nostalgic adventure, especially in local co-op.”

“After putting in serious time, I can say Nicktoons & The Dice of Destiny is more than just a nostalgia trip. It’s a chaotic, surprisingly strategic action RPG that manages to be accessible to kids and engaging for adults. The dice mechanic isn’t just a gimmick, it changes how you play, how you build, and how you approach every fight. Yeah, the roster could be bigger, and the campaign’s short, but the moment-to-moment gameplay more than makes up for it. When you’re in the middle of a dice-triggered slime flood, laughing with friends while SpongeBob throws down next to Katara, the flaws don’t matter much.”

“Despite being a bit lacking of proper challenge, Nicktoons & The Dice of Destiny stands out for being an excellent homage to television greats, blending a fun tale with accessible and competent gameplay.”

“I'd imagine a lot of people going to this with '90s or '00s Nick nostalgia in their eyes could leave a little disappointed due to the overall simplicity, but this is an action RPG for the younger sect. More specifically, it's an action RPG for adults with said nostalgia (and maybe some love for Diablo-esque games) to play with their children. It's a serviceable dungeon crawler with a lot of love for the Nicktoons involved that is super cute and playful.”

“Nicktoons & The Dice of Destiny does a lot right and uses the licence extremely well, but it is let down by weak level design and repetitive objectives.”

“Nicktoons & The Dice of Destiny more than likely won’t compete with the likes of Diablo or Path of Exile, but it doesn’t need to. Its goal is smaller and more focused: to give Nickelodeon characters a new stage to play on while delivering a lighthearted RPG that works for both kids and nostalgic adults. On that front, it rolls a nat’ 20!”

“Nicktoons & The Dice of Destiny isn’t perfect, but it’s the pinnacle of Nicktoons gaming. If you’ve ever wanted to see SpongeBob, Jimmy Neutron, Timmy Turner, and Danny Phantom team up and basically be the Avengers, but for Nickelodeon instead of Marvel, then play this game. It’s a reminder of why we loved these shows in the first place.”

“I wish I could say that the general combat and experience here is sound, but with how the levels are constructed, and the reuse of almost entire environments to fill out four levels per location, it’s hard to really see much value here in what the studio has put together. I like the cutscenes and the teaming up of these characters, even hinting they have joined forces before, but are not sure where, but the gameplay around all of this is the same ten minutes over and over again to make up a roughly six-hour adventure. With a lack of variety to shake things up and a fairly disappointing roster of characters, it simply rolls low and takes the damage.”

“Nicktoons & The Dice of Destiny is a genuinely solid and charming isometric dungeon-crawler that makes good use of all of the Nickelodeon IPs jammed into it, bolstered by great art direction and an excellent voice cast featuring many of the original voice actors. However, the game’s attempts to appeal to multiple audiences put it at a disadvantage.”

“Nicktoons & The Dice of Destiny does have entertainment value to it, especially for a younger audience, but those looking for a nostalgic trip revisiting Nickelodeon characters might be a bit disappointed due to how basic the gameplay and levels are. There are also technical hitches that need to be addressed.”
