How this score was computed
The VGC Score is a weighted blend on a press-comparable 0-100 quality scale. Steam approval rates are first calibrated (95% positive on Steam ≈ 89.5 quality, since Steam approval skews high). Press and tracked creator reviews each count ~2x a player review and share one cap against player evidence (creator buy/skip calls pool into an approval rate, calibrated like Steam approval); all-time sentiment is capped and halved (it's context, not verdict); reviews of the current build carry the most weight when a fresh patch anchors the window; and a 'typical game' prior keeps small samples from pegging the scale. Because press reviews and Metacritic user aggregates describe the launch build, their weight decays as the game ages (3-year half-life after a 1-year grace). That's how a game that launched rough can outgrow its old reception once updates win players over. Reviews under 2h playtime (the refund window), non-Steam activations, and free copies are downweighted.

“Formula Legends is a game made with passion, and it shows. It understands the charm of old-school racing and translates that nostalgia into an accessible, colorful, and fun experience. It's the kind of title that makes you want to go "just one more lap", and that brings smiles to the faces of those who grew up watching Alonso, Hamilton, Prost, Senna, Schumacher, and Vettel on those magical race days. But, like a small team trying to compete with giants, the game stumbles on technical limitations and strange decisions, such as the complete absence of multiplayer. It still lacks polish and consistency to achieve a podium finish. Ultimately, Formula Legends doesn't even come close to the title, but it deserves respect for reminding us all why motorsports is so captivating.”

“Formula Legends is definitely an interesting game that, with its simple design and controls, takes you through entire generations of the Formula 1 racing championship. If you’re looking for something lighthearted to help pass the time while waiting for the new season, just want to relax with something simple, or are looking for a gentle game for your kids, Formula Legends is exactly what you’re looking for. Seven and a half out of ten.”

“An absolute love letter to F1 racing fans, giving you a chance to enjoy racing them from different eras, but its performance and attempt to be somewhere between arcade and sim have issues”

“Formula Legends might be worth it, but only if you're willing to overlook its flaws for the sake of an interesting concept behind the game.”

“Formula Legends immediately captivates with its distinctive visual style and surprises with its depth of gameplay, which is much richer than expected. However, its demanding nature, rigid artificial intelligence, and collision management detract from part of the experience. Each session leaves you with the impression of having experienced a daring and innovative title, but also of having faced frustrations that could have been avoided. Nevertheless, it will certainly find its niche audience, although it would have been interesting to make it more accessible to newcomers.”

“Formula Legends is clearly a game made by fans of the most prestigious category in motorsport, however, despite having good ideas and taking the player on a time-traveling journey through the history of the category, the lack of game modes and some other structural issues end up limiting what could have been an excellent racing game.”

“In our test, Formula Legends impresses primarily with its great scope, beautifully implemented races, catchy gameplay, and, of course, its successful unlocking mechanics. The seven decades of F1 depicted are played out on a total of 14 tracks, with different variants often available. In terms of scope and atmosphere, developer 3DClouds is second to none. So, is everything set for the world championship title? Unfortunately not quite, as some technical issues and the lackluster background music detract from the overall picture. In particular, the slight stuttering during racing and the noticeable reloading of textures when the weather changes are immediately noticeable and prevent what seemed like a sure place on the podium. With a little tweaking, however, I can definitely recommend Formula Legends to both F1 fans and arcade-loving racing enthusiasts.”

“It's retro enough to show the kids how it used to be done back in the day, yet modern enough to run at a smooth framerate in a handheld form factor. Still, this subversively styled game can be a difficult taskmaster with all of the race assists disabled and rule accurate settings in place. It's the tsundere waifu that will happily cook you dinner with a smile but will clobber you with a frying pan using all the force of the Incredible Hulk if you dare say it's a little salty.”

“Ultimately, Formula Legends is a game with a lot of heart, born of a genuine passion for motorsport, a passion that shines through in nearly every track, vehicle, and character design. Its massive scope, loving tribute to F1 history, and intriguing blend of arcade and simulation elements make it a compelling proposition for motorsport fans unbothered by the lack of official licenses. At the same time, however, the idiosyncratic and occasionally frustrating handling, unbalanced AI, and absence of multiplayer modes prevent the game from truly competing with established rivals. Players willing to grapple with a steep learning curve, and who prioritize the racing simulation experience over technical polish, will find Formula Legends to be a surprisingly deep and lovingly crafted journey through Formula 1 history. Conversely, those seeking instant fun and a smooth, well-balanced gameplay experience would do better to wait and see if future updates address the game's major shortcomings.”

“There is a lot in Formula Legends that I could see why it is appealing. The reason I was interested in it is that it didn’t look like your typical racing experience. For the most part thats kinda true, though not in the way that was desired on my end. The game is extremely punishing, even on its easiest setting, and it can be weirdly selective on when it wants to really force you into a sim experience and when it doesn’t.”

“The new racing game is visually pleasing and conceptually interesting, but with untuned gameplay. The idea of & 8203;& 8203;combining an arcade look with more serious simulation elements is nice, but the result feels unfinished.”

“Overall it’s hard not to love what 3DClouds has done with Formula Legends. It’s arcade feel mixed with simulation elements makes it great for people who prefer either racing style and its attention to detail clear love from F1 is appreciated as a sports enthusiast. While it can be held back a bit by its limited number of tracks and custom options, Formula Legends should be in every racing fans rotation.”
