How this score was computed
The VGC Score is a weighted blend on a press-comparable 0-100 quality scale. Steam approval rates are first calibrated (95% positive on Steam ≈ 89.5 quality, since Steam approval skews high). Press and tracked creator reviews each count ~2x a player review and share one cap against player evidence (creator buy/skip calls pool into an approval rate, calibrated like Steam approval); all-time sentiment is capped and halved (it's context, not verdict); reviews of the current build carry the most weight when a fresh patch anchors the window; and a 'typical game' prior keeps small samples from pegging the scale. Because press reviews and Metacritic user aggregates describe the launch build, their weight decays as the game ages (3-year half-life after a 1-year grace). That's how a game that launched rough can outgrow its old reception once updates win players over. Reviews under 2h playtime (the refund window), non-Steam activations, and free copies are downweighted.

| All-time Steam reviews | 88% | 82 | 1000 |

“Although Children of Morta does suffer from its uninteresting story and lack of replayability, the base gameplay is at least fun enough to warrant a recommendation. The combat is impactful, the progression system is cool, and the art is really good for a game of the genre. For fans of rogue-likes and rogue-lites, Children of Morta should definitely be on your radar.”

“The story of a family that is waiting for the hero at home after another raid into the dungeon, brings additional immersion and highlights Children of Morta against the background of other similar projects. This is a great game with a powerful atmosphere, nice graphics and an interesting story that should appeal to fans of the genre.”

“Children of Morta is exceptional game in many ways and it is pushing whole rogue-like genre to its modern take on original game-design. You can expect touching story line, great audio-visual quality and also well designed gameplay. But as it is typical in the genre, you should expect repetitive enviroment and some balancing issues too.”

“If you want to save the world, the best way to do it is for everyone to pull together. Children of Morta is clear proof of this. The developers have managed to bring about a revolution in the genre, introducing a modest yet remarkable game to the gaming industry that captivates not only with its unique art style but also with its revolutionary gameplay, which shatters the very foundations of its genre.”

“While not perfect, what's there is jaw-droppingly gorgeous, plus it has heart and brains. If you're a fan of roguelikes, Children of Morta is well worth your time.”

“Children of Morta carves out a nice little space for itself in the rogue-lite genre. It's a beautiful-looking game that's obviously had a lot of love and care poured into it. Its dungeons, although perhaps not the strongest in terms of variety of enemies, are certainly refreshingly challenging, and all of the upgrade systems, pickups and playable characters on offer ensure there's plenty here to keep things feeling fresh over the fifteen-to-twenty hours it will take you to see things through to the end. ”

“Even at its lowest, Children of Morta encapsulates the struggles, challenges and joys of family. It beautifully reminds us about acceptance, loss, and to support the ones you love.”

“Children of Morta presents a really amazing story about an adventuring family out to save the world. Its mix of Rogue-lite and RPG elements make it easily accessible to expert players and new players to this genre. And even with other massive titles, it is a great indie gem that you should have.”

“What you feel after completing Children of Morta is not the regular nostalgia after finishing a great hack’n’slash-roguelite hybrid, it's the feeling of leaving you family and the safety of your home. A splendid game!”

“While the combat may not be the most exciting offering in the roguelite genre, there’s still a lot to love in Children of Morta. Beautiful pixel artwork keeps things visually interesting and is especially well done in touching family moments.”
