How this score was computed

The VGC Score is a weighted blend on a press-comparable 0-100 quality scale. Steam approval rates are first calibrated (95% positive on Steam ≈ 89.5 quality, since Steam approval skews high). Press and tracked creator reviews each count ~2x a player review and share one cap against player evidence (creator buy/skip calls pool into an approval rate, calibrated like Steam approval); all-time sentiment is capped and halved (it's context, not verdict); reviews of the current build carry the most weight when a fresh patch anchors the window; and a 'typical game' prior keeps small samples from pegging the scale. Because press reviews and Metacritic user aggregates describe the launch build, their weight decays as the game ages (3-year half-life after a 1-year grace). That's how a game that launched rough can outgrow its old reception once updates win players over. Reviews under 2h playtime (the refund window), non-Steam activations, and free copies are downweighted.

Acclaim gate: the raw blend lands at 88.5, but scores above 88 must be earned in front of a mass audience; this verdict rests on 2,761 player reviews, a largely self-selected fanbase. As more players weigh in, the ceiling rises (full scale unlocks at 100,000 reviews).

Be prepared for an emotional rollercoaster with And Roger. This game made me feel everything the protagonist felt, fear, frustration, sadness, even moments of joy. It only takes about an hour to finish, but like any great piece of art, I found myself processing and reflecting on it well after I completed the game.

and Roger is devastating in its execution, somehow managing to pack the story full of fear, happiness, love, confusion, and everything in between, all within a one-hour timespan.

And Roger took me from fear to joy to heartbreak, landing somewhere close to bittersweet as the credits rolled. Its constantly shifting controls not only replicate the characters' inner feelings admirably, but also manage to tell me what to do without saying a word. Everyone should take the time to experience this game for themselves.

An absolutely brilliant mix of gameplay and story that is soul-crushing but terrifyingly accurate.

No fat needs to be trimmed, no minigames for the sake of expanding the time spent with it. And Roger might be another one of the perfect examples of why games aren't just art, but elevate our conception of what art can be, and how it can explore our own humanity. Frankly, it's a fantastic feeling to be reminded of every once in a while and I'd urge you to seek it out for yourself.

And Roger is a brief but emotional one-hour visual novel. It does not take long to understand its narrative argument. But the way it is presented is so impactful that it does not need more than that to accomplish its goal. To witness a loved one’s mental decline is devastating, to the point where the game even goes on to mention approaching religion to find solace in times of need.

and Roger is a poignant and meaningful adventure, and the Switch 2 version feels like the strongest console release. This is primarily because it’s so well suited for a mouse-based control scheme, which this offers. It’s a touching tales that leaves an impact on those who play it.

An accomplished interactive novel, and Roger is an impactful, important game. Its one-hour runtime will take you on a ride of emotions leaving its core message to not give up on people, despite how tough, cumbersome or frustrating it, or they, may be.

‘and Roger’ trusts you to meet it on its own terms, and that trust is rewarded with one of the most affecting stories I've played this year and the last. Its interactive ideas are simple, but every one of them serves a purpose beyond keeping your hands busy. I know for a fact that it's a game I'll remember far longer than the hour it took me to finish.

It might be very short, but and Roger’s subtle storytelling and brilliantly immersive minigames make it an accomplished interactive experience that everyone can appreciate.

The story is short, you should have no problem finishing the entire game in a single sitting, and by design, there are no filler moments, save for the intermissions between chapters. Bending the boundaries of visual novel conventions, and Roger shares a poignant, beautiful story that’s best experienced first-hand.
