How this score was computed

The VGC Score is a weighted blend on a press-comparable 0-100 quality scale. Steam approval rates are first calibrated (95% positive on Steam ≈ 89.5 quality, since Steam approval skews high). Press and tracked creator reviews each count ~2x a player review and share one cap against player evidence (creator buy/skip calls pool into an approval rate, calibrated like Steam approval); all-time sentiment is capped and halved (it's context, not verdict); reviews of the current build carry the most weight when a fresh patch anchors the window; and a 'typical game' prior keeps small samples from pegging the scale. Because press reviews and Metacritic user aggregates describe the launch build, their weight decays as the game ages (3-year half-life after a 1-year grace). That's how a game that launched rough can outgrow its old reception once updates win players over. Reviews under 2h playtime (the refund window), non-Steam activations, and free copies are downweighted.

Lost Soul Aside is a perfect example of wasted potential. Great combat is unfortunately not enough to make a good game. Virtually all other elements of the game are relics from 10 years ago or are simply poorly made. It's a shame, because the game had enormous potential and looked very good in the previews, but it's perfect proof that nowadays we can't take anything for granted.

Lost Soul Aside leaves a mixed impression. The game offers truly spectacular battles with unique bosses that provide fresh experiences, and the environment is designed in a memorable art style with high-level detail. However, players must endure lengthy levels, a mediocre plot, and subpar voice acting.

Lost Soul Aside had huge ambitions and plenty of time, but unfortunately, not enough talent. Many of the ideas seem forced and unnecessary, the game doesn't know when to stop, and the story is extremely uninteresting. The entertaining combat system simply can't save it.

Ultizero Games brings us Lost Soul Aside, an action game with a strong narrative focus that, despite showing great potential, stumbles over all the clichés of the genre. If the gameplay had the frenetic pace that the cutscenes suggest, all this would be anecdotal. I hope Ultizero Games has the opportunity to create another game within this universe and take advantage of its creative potential.

Lost Soul Aside is a clear example of wasted potential. The game had everything it needed to stand out among the great hack 'n' slash games, but it ended up feeling generic and lacking in identity. The fast-paced combat provides moments of fun, and the soundtrack even stands out in some scenes, but these positives are quickly overshadowed by serious issues with progression, performance, and narrative. The title constantly tries to draw inspiration from industry hits, but the end result lacks any personality, delivering a soulless and characterless experience.

Is it a total flop? Not really. Lost Soul Aside isn’t a bad game. It can entertain with fast-paced combat, impress with its audiovisuals, and delight with a few clever ideas. At the same time, however, it’s average in many respects, below average in places, and occasionally comes across as amateurish. Its appealing exterior can be misleading, because underneath it there are plenty of rough edges. At a time when quality hack-and-slash games are few and far between, this might be a stopgap option for fans of the genre. More discerning players, however, are in for a disappointment wrapped in pretty packaging. Lost Soul Aside looks great, but beneath the gloss there are plenty of rough edges. It’s not lacking in potential, but the execution is severely lacking.

Lost Soul Aside is a linear action RPG that began as a solo project and finally arrived after nearly a decade. It delivers much of the promised spectacle with its fast, flashy, combat-driven combat and superb soundtrack. But uneven presentation, occasional bugs and inconsistencies make it best for players who can overlook rough edges.

Lost Soul Aside is quintessential big, dumb fun. You won't find much sense in the story and may cringe at the voice acting, but turn your brain off and you'll have a good time.

Lost Soul Aside is a game that not only failed to meet any expectations built in the years since its announcement, but also failed at achieving the bare minimum quality I'd expect from a game like this, a decent combat system doesn't make up for everything else being a disaster.

If you’re into stylish action games, there’s enough here to keep you entertained, especially the boss fights. But it also feels underbaked, like a strong first attempt that needed more time and more experience behind it. I’ll be keeping an eye on what this team does next, because the potential is definitely there.

Lost Soul Aside had all the potential to revitalize the hack 'n' slash genre, but it falls short due to inconsistent execution. It's evident that there's passion and talent behind the project, especially in the combat system design, but it's also clear that many other essential aspects needed more polish.

Lost Soul Aside is easy to recommend for those seeking a fast-paced hack-and-slash with flashy effects - but its desert-dry story and mechanics that punish exploration make it a tougher sell for anyone else.
