How this score was computed
The VGC Score is a weighted blend on a press-comparable 0-100 quality scale. Steam approval rates are first calibrated (95% positive on Steam ≈ 89.5 quality, since Steam approval skews high). Press and tracked creator reviews each count ~2x a player review and share one cap against player evidence (creator buy/skip calls pool into an approval rate, calibrated like Steam approval); all-time sentiment is capped and halved (it's context, not verdict); reviews of the current build carry the most weight when a fresh patch anchors the window; and a 'typical game' prior keeps small samples from pegging the scale. Because press reviews and Metacritic user aggregates describe the launch build, their weight decays as the game ages (3-year half-life after a 1-year grace). That's how a game that launched rough can outgrow its old reception once updates win players over. Reviews under 2h playtime (the refund window), non-Steam activations, and free copies are downweighted.
| Component | Positive | Quality (0-100) | Weight (pseudo-reviews) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Press reviews (OpenCritic) | – | 56 | 12 |
| All-time Steam reviews | 66% | 64 | 445 |
| Metacritic user ratings | – | – | 0 |
| Post-patch Steam reviews (trust-weighted) | 60% | 60 | 1 |
| Calibration prior (typical game) | – | 72 | 50 |

“And although there are many deficiencies, balance and design problems in this game, developers manage to keep the users' attention due to the well-designed atmosphere, strong opponents and the Souls concept, where battles with dangerous enemies are filled with adrenaline.”

“Immortal: Unchained only wants to feed on big brands such as Bloodborne, Dark Souls or The Surge. But the developers couldn't understand what makes these titles so special and entertaining. The Xbox One version is pulled down by technical problems. We recommend the title for two out of ten points. It would be better for you to wait a few months for a better hardcore action RPG.”

“Immortal: Unchained got an essence of Dark Souls, it manages to capture this magnificent horror-mystic atmosphere. But the game's so undercooked that it's hard to recommend it to anyone right now.”

“Immortal: Unchained isn't inherently an awful game, but it has very little going in its favour. Its level design is one shining beacon among a sea of bang average gameplay, unacceptable technical flaws, and a combat system that does little to distinguish itself from its inspirations. Those enamoured with the Souls formula may discover something to like, but they'll have to sort through a mountain of mediocrity to find it.”

“This has to be one of the more original Dark Souls-like games available, and anyone looking for a fresh take on the formula will be able to find enjoyment in Immortal: Unchained as long as they are willing to overlook a fair lack of polish.”

“Immortal: Unchained has a long way to go and though this may have been its full release, it really should still be in Beta as they tweak the engine to provide some semblance of the promised third-person shooter/hardcore action-RPG.”

“It wants to be Dark Souls with guns, but gameplay is so repetitive and boring, you will be probably ennuied soon.”

“There's room for a direct-to-TV rip of the Dark Souls formula, but at a current asking price of $50, Immortal: Unchained is impossible to recommend.”

“Immortal Unchained is a bad third-person shooter and a boring Souls-like. Its execution is poor enough to make you realize that Dark Souls-with-guns isn't actually as cool as it sounds.”

“Immortal: Unchained is a bold experiment that paid off in the end. Besides some small technical issues and a sometimes terrible aim tracking mechanic you'll get a solid Third-Person-Shooter with the Souslike elements we know and love integrated. The depth and fascination of Dark Souls is mostly missing but this game has potential to create and fill a new niche in the Action RPG Genre.”

“Immortal Unchained takes elements of From Software titles and successfully incorporates them into a sci-fi shooter. Unfortunately, the other aspects of the game are not as well thought out or executed, leaving one to wonder what could have been. If you're a Souls fan, who also enjoys the occasional shooter, definitely check out Immortal Unchained and absolutely pick it up when it's on sale. At $45 USD this game is a slightly overpriced.”

“After playing Immortal Unchained for over 35 hours, i must say that it is one of my best experience of a souls-like game. Developers of the game are so brave that took a risk to create a shooter based on Souls elements and rules, and it is a start for "shooter souls-like" games, but the first one is always the most important one. despite of many issues in technical, difficulty balance and boss fight design, Immortal Unchained is fun enough to entertain a veteran souls-fan for over 35 hours. But the most important point about playing Immortal Unchained is that "if you want to see the real potential of Immortal Unchained and feel the points that i spoke about, you must play it 3-4 hours at least, because in the first 1-2 hours, the game felt some weird, but after 3-4 hours, it shows you its depth, little by little. You can't judge a game with 40 hours content, based on its first hour and give it a 4!!”
