How this score was computed

The VGC Score is a weighted blend on a press-comparable 0-100 quality scale. Steam approval rates are first calibrated (95% positive on Steam ≈ 89.5 quality, since Steam approval skews high). Press and tracked creator reviews each count ~2x a player review and share one cap against player evidence (creator buy/skip calls pool into an approval rate, calibrated like Steam approval); all-time sentiment is capped and halved (it's context, not verdict); reviews of the current build carry the most weight when a fresh patch anchors the window; and a 'typical game' prior keeps small samples from pegging the scale. Because press reviews and Metacritic user aggregates describe the launch build, their weight decays as the game ages (3-year half-life after a 1-year grace). That's how a game that launched rough can outgrow its old reception once updates win players over. Reviews under 2h playtime (the refund window), non-Steam activations, and free copies are downweighted.

All in all, Final Fantasy VII on the Nintendo Switch is an odd beast. At its core, it's a stable, fun retread of a well-worn classic. However we wish that there was more to it.

Final Fantasy VII is the sort of game that speaks for itself, a touchstone of game design that played a large role in setting the standard of RPGs for years to come.

Final Fantasy VII is worth checking out and offers plenty of entertaining moments, but it's going to be appreciated by those looking at it with rose-tinted nostalgia far more than anyone picking it up for the first time.

Final Fantasy 7 is considered an iconic classic for a reason. It’s story is deep and ahead of it’s time and features well developed characters and world lore. You’ll easily be able to sink over 100 hours into the game if you want to see everything that’s on offer, so there’s no arguing with the amount of value on offer for the asking price. Even though there are a few visual problems with the HD remasters I was willing to look past it and still thoroughly enjoy the game. This port is also the first that allows you to take the HD Final Fantasy 7 experience on the go.

Final Fantasy VII is a milestone in console RPGs in general, deserving to be played by all fans of the genre for its historic relevance. However, it has not aged quite as gracefully as others in some areas, which means it's not quite as timeless, like many games of its vintage, unfortunately.

Final Fantasy VII is a well-achieved adaptatioin on the hybrid Nintendo console. Despite all the aids for new players, Square Enix is re-launching of one of the best games of all time and, if it reached that category, it's because its a tracendental piece of work.

The portability of the Switch and pick-up-and-play nature provides enough modern convenience to give old fans a reason to replay and new fans an excuse to try it.

Overall, Final Fantasy VII is a solid RPG that, however, represents a noticeable step backward in gameplay, while its presentation, though technically progressive, doesn't particularly benefit the actual player experience.

GREAT - It’s Final Fantasy VII. I love this game so much I went to a concert in Tokyo to watch “A One Winged Angel” performed live. If you’re even a remote fan of turn-based JRPGs you should probably pick this one up. At long last you can play it anywhere at anytime!

Final Fantasy VII might not seem as ambitious as it once did, but it is still an incredible ride for fans of the traditional JRPG.

The rough edges may be more prominent these days, but Final Fantasy VII is still one of the greatest JRPGs ever, with unsurpassed character design, world building, party customization, and music.
