How this score was computed

The VGC Score is a weighted blend on a press-comparable 0-100 quality scale. Steam approval rates are first calibrated (95% positive on Steam ≈ 89.5 quality, since Steam approval skews high). Press and tracked creator reviews each count ~2x a player review and share one cap against player evidence (creator buy/skip calls pool into an approval rate, calibrated like Steam approval); all-time sentiment is capped and halved (it's context, not verdict); reviews of the current build carry the most weight when a fresh patch anchors the window; and a 'typical game' prior keeps small samples from pegging the scale. Because press reviews and Metacritic user aggregates describe the launch build, their weight decays as the game ages (3-year half-life after a 1-year grace). That's how a game that launched rough can outgrow its old reception once updates win players over. Reviews under 2h playtime (the refund window), non-Steam activations, and free copies are downweighted.

Dead or Alive 6 is not a step forward compared to the previous games in the series, and in some important aspects it completely loses to its predecessor.

While there is not a lot of new content in DEAD OR ALIVE 6 Last Round, it is certainly the ‘definitive’ edition of the fighting game. It brings a few new fighters and costumes to the table, but the real eye candy is the visuals, and the buttery-smooth gameplay. It excels at mastering the art of fighting with both simple and complex fighting moves, offering something for both casual and hardcore fighting enthusiasts. DEAD OR ALIVE 6 Last Round not only looks good but also plays well. The photo mode also brings a unique element to the game. For long-term fans of the franchise, or new players who missed the original 2019 release of DEAD OR ALIVE 6, the Last Round certainly is a fighting game that will deliver hours of fighting.

Dead or Alive 6: Last Round is a great fighting game let down by a baffling re-release strategy: no rollback netcode, no crossplay, no Tag Battle, and hundreds of euros in DLC, seven years after the original.

Dead or Alive 6 isn’t a game that’s going to make me a fan of the fighting genre, but the ease of jumping into the basics makes it a fun title to break out with other fighting game newbies.

DOA6 is a fun game, but it's not really a huge leap from part 5, and it still needs more functions & fan-favourite modes to stand out from other fighting games even from last year. As much fun as it is to kick ass as either Hitomi or that schoolgirl with the multiple moves, the absurd Story Mode isn't enough to pique my interest for more than a few weeks.

Gorgeous, fun, and fair, it also stands out with its perfectly built online mode and great character roster.

The combat system has been tweaked just enough to keep things fresh for Dead or Alive 6, but there is this niggling feeling that the budget just wasn't there for this game, which is unfortunate, because there are plenty of modes and great characters to enjoy. A few too many aspects stand out as sub-par, though, leading to disappointment for many that have been waiting so long for the next entry in this franchise. Still a whole lot of fun and worth at least trying the free-to-play version out if curious, but it may be best to wait for the likely Ultimate edition.

Compared to Dead or Alive 5 Last Round, which featured all previously released content and even introduced two new scenarios, characters, and a clothing destruction system, the sixth game is very disappointing in terms of content.

Dead or Alive 6 Last Round is a disappointment on multiple fronts: zero new features, no improvements, and, last but not least, a flawed online component. In 2026, with fighting game competition increasingly fierce, you can't launch a product without rollback netcode and, above all, crossplay, neither between consoles nor between the two versions currently on the market. The combat system is still fun, but the flaws mentioned above can only leave a bitter taste in the mouth.

Dead or Alive 6 uses reliable mechanics while adding new twists to freshen up the gameplay. Combat is fluid, fun, and exciting, yet, overall, it's not without glaring flaws.

Dead or Alive 6 finds itself in this slightly awkward middle space where it's certainly a sequel, but it's not nearly the jump that we were expecting -- especially since it's been almost seven years since Dead or Alive 5. The new additions to combat are welcome but they're not exactly exciting, and the overall package is reasonably robust, but let down by tedious grinds and a terrible story mode. As a fighter, Dead or Alive is still fun, punchy, and accessible, but as an upgrade on the already solid Dead or Alive 5: Last Round, it feels underwhelming, and even a little rushed.
