How this score was computed
The VGC Score is a weighted blend on a press-comparable 0-100 quality scale. Steam approval rates are first calibrated (95% positive on Steam ≈ 89.5 quality, since Steam approval skews high). Press and tracked creator reviews each count ~2x a player review and share one cap against player evidence (creator buy/skip calls pool into an approval rate, calibrated like Steam approval); all-time sentiment is capped and halved (it's context, not verdict); reviews of the current build carry the most weight when a fresh patch anchors the window; and a 'typical game' prior keeps small samples from pegging the scale. Because press reviews and Metacritic user aggregates describe the launch build, their weight decays as the game ages (3-year half-life after a 1-year grace). That's how a game that launched rough can outgrow its old reception once updates win players over. Reviews under 2h playtime (the refund window), non-Steam activations, and free copies are downweighted.

“Despite Steel Seed being steeped in familiar tropes and clichés, the developers paid close attention to the visuals and crafted gameplay that strikes a solid balance between stealth action and hack-and-slash mechanics.”

“Steel Seed is like the cold touch of an alien planet, you don’t expect it to move you, but something inside you awakens. If you love sci-fi that’s not just about technology, but about the very question of who we are, you’ll find what you’re looking for here. The game has its flaws, but it also has a soul, encoded deep within its circuits and the reflections of metal. It’s a title that won’t appeal to everyone, but those who fall in love with it will immerse themselves in it completely. And then they’ll spend a long time pondering everything Steel Seed actually said between the lines.”

“While Storm in a Teacup's about-face from mechanical simplicity is audacious, Steel Seed is something I'm more compelled to admire than recommend.”

“Steel Seed's great dilemma lies in the fact that it presents promising ideas, but which constantly come up against clear limitations in execution.”

“After hours of playing, Steel Seed has earned a spot as one of my favorite stealth games in recent memory. It’s not flashy. It’s not trying to reinvent the genre. But what it does, it does with care, style, and substance. This is a game for players who like to think their way through a challenge, who enjoy immersive worlds that don’t yell at you, and who appreciate games that respect your time and intelligence. If that sounds like you, give Steel Seed your attention. It deserves it.”

“Steel Seed can be a good distraction in the first few hours, but, unfortunatelly, it quickly becomes repetitive. Overall, it feels like an average game from the PlayStation 2 era, but it doesn't do anything particularly well or exceptionally enough to avoid falling into the category of completely forgettable.”

“The more I played of Steel Seed the more I felt like that old saying where the kid asks for McDonalds and their mom says they have that at home. Yea, well Steel Seed is like the Stellar Blade we have at home. While the game itself is competent, its greatest sin for me is that it just wasn’t very fun. This seed didn’t bring forth the crop I thought it would, and I suggest just skipping this one.”

“Steel Seed is a frustrating and mundanely derivative mess in most aspects of its game design, but its one signature highlight is that it excels at offering a unique hardcore stealth gameplay loop featuring an interesting and dynamic toolkit for creative takedowns and maneuvers. Considering that Steel Seed was made by a rather small independent studio and that it offers somewhat inventive stealth mechanics, I do think Steel Seed is a decent addition to the stealth genre. However, I don't feel as though Steel Seed is a sufficiently enjoyable game due to all of its shortcomings in a variety of areas, which make Steel Seed feel monotonous, unpolished, and uninspired in its totality.”

“Steel Seed is hard to pigeonhole into a specific genre, but thanks to its heavy sci-fi atmosphere it plays brilliantly. Admittedly, we won't find anything innovative here, but the game defends itself as a whole. It is worth giving it a chance especially if you have a taste for futuristic, post-apocalyptic climates.”

“Steel Seed is a great dystopian journey that masterfully blends stealth, action, and storytelling. Its emotional depth, strategic game-play, and atmospheric world make it a must-play for fans of the genre.”

“A competent action adventure with a focus on stealth and platforming, Steel Seed is a fun enough romp through futuristic giga-architecture. It’s unintended glitches and unresponsive combat bring it down, and the overall package isn’t all that compelling when better examples exist elsewhere.”

“Steel Seed is real proof of how good ideas in video game development can lead to greatness, and that you don't have to be a super-rich company to make an amazing game.”
