How this score was computed
The VGC Score is a weighted blend on a press-comparable 0-100 quality scale. Steam approval rates are first calibrated (95% positive on Steam ≈ 89.5 quality, since Steam approval skews high). Press and tracked creator reviews each count ~2x a player review and share one cap against player evidence (creator buy/skip calls pool into an approval rate, calibrated like Steam approval); all-time sentiment is capped and halved (it's context, not verdict); reviews of the current build carry the most weight when a fresh patch anchors the window; and a 'typical game' prior keeps small samples from pegging the scale. Because press reviews and Metacritic user aggregates describe the launch build, their weight decays as the game ages (3-year half-life after a 1-year grace). That's how a game that launched rough can outgrow its old reception once updates win players over. Reviews under 2h playtime (the refund window), non-Steam activations, and free copies are downweighted.

“Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon Wildlands suffers from the repeatative missions and lack of polishing. There are no truly new ideas, dull AI, naive story, and not everyone will appreciate even those ideas, which were successfully borrowed from other games. You will spend a lot of time travelling on the huge map, shooting dummys. But with all this new Ghost Recon does not skimp on the atmospheric moments and fun gameplay at a high level of difficulty, giving a lot of positive experiences with the co-op mode with four friends.”

“Clearest example of open world's needlessness in a game. We probably would've rate it higher if it was a linear TPS or if the map was two times smaller. But for now you need to spend too much time in your vehicle to get to something interesting or fun.”

“Time and again, the overwhelming size of Wildlands‘s open world is used to disguise the game’s lack of real freedom within it.”

“Ghost Recon Wildlands represents what we've seen from Ubisoft in recent years, with that open-world, third-person shooter scheme, on "automatic", but in a well-crafted way. The game isn't generic, despite its story being, and its gameplay shines a lot. Multiplayer and extra modes are present, so it's worth checking out for new and old fans. Some of Ubi's most elaborate graphics are also seen here, so prepare to be surprised with each new camera turn.”

“Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon Wildlands is a great action game with an interesting premise, set in a fantastic world with beautiful graphics, a great sale price, a well-crafted story, and a few annoying bugs, all topped off with microtransactions. I've forgiven it, and you should too for just ten bucks.”

“It's a solid effort from Ubisoft. There's something for everyone and while it rarely excels at all of them, it manages to be a surprisingly engaging game. The overarching structure is overwrought and its fiction is one-sided but that means little when you're crashing helicopters into unsuspecting cartel outposts while your friends detonate copious amounts of explosives.”

“This is a game that doesn’t seem to care at all about the very real horrors of modern Central and South American history, that presents a dire international problem as something that can be solved through the clean precision of four American badasses pulling off sync shots. Whether out of neglect, a lack of understanding or a deep callousness, it turns the suffering of the people who right now live under vicious cartels into a playground for a forgettable sandbox shooter. Its audience needs either a willful ignorance of, or a disturbing outlook on, the world around them to be able to play Wildlands without a deep sense of unease.”

“Ghost Recon Wildlands is one of the most entertaining co-op experiences we've seen so far. Strong characters, solid gameplay mechanics and it also fulfills our expectations when it comes to visuals and sound. However, Ubisoft gets lost when they fill the game with generic content. This is the most wild, arcade and straightforward Ghost Recon to date, and that is both good and bad at the same time.”

“The freedom imbued in the gargantuan and beautiful world of Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon: Wildlands' Bolivia sure makes this a worthwhile purchase, but only if you plan to enjoy it with a couple of friends, and only if willing to put up with the standard issues of most sandbox titles, like repetition, repetition, and, most importantly, repetition.”

“While Ubisoft has proven adept at successfully applying its open world formula to a lot of games over the years, Ghost Recon: Wildlands feels like the first one lacking any real identity. While it gives a good first impression with its impactful gun battles, visually distinct open world, and wide selection of weapons, it's ultimately the war of intentions at its heart, between the freedom and unpredictability of an open world on the one hand, and the preciseness of a strategic cover-based shooter on the other, that makes for a title that'll leave both sides of the battle disappointed.”

“Ghost Recon: Wildlands is not a great nor weak game. Ubisoft created a beautiful Bolivia with detailed environment and managed to keep the tactical nature of Ghost Recon games. The result is a good game in a big and beautiful map. The Co-op mode is fantastic but weak covering system and repetitive side missions plus problems with the technical graphics, prevent the game to be a great one.”

“Ghost Recon: Wildlands gives you all the tools needed to have a lot of fun with friends, despite some design flaws, minor bugs, an inconsistent narrative and a somewhat repetitive structure. As a solo experience, it is solid but too big to keep you interested, and with random people it can be too chaotic to enjoy. It all comes down to how are you going to play and who are you going to play it with.”
