How this score was computed
The VGC Score is a weighted blend on a press-comparable 0-100 quality scale. Steam approval rates are first calibrated (95% positive on Steam ≈ 89.5 quality, since Steam approval skews high). Press and tracked creator reviews each count ~2x a player review and share one cap against player evidence (creator buy/skip calls pool into an approval rate, calibrated like Steam approval); all-time sentiment is capped and halved (it's context, not verdict); reviews of the current build carry the most weight when a fresh patch anchors the window; and a 'typical game' prior keeps small samples from pegging the scale. Because press reviews and Metacritic user aggregates describe the launch build, their weight decays as the game ages (3-year half-life after a 1-year grace). That's how a game that launched rough can outgrow its old reception once updates win players over. Reviews under 2h playtime (the refund window), non-Steam activations, and free copies are downweighted.

“Far Cry 5 plays best in co-op with a friend thanks to many crazy situations and fun moments. The basic story is not bad, but Ubisoft is copying itself and amount of recycled elements can upset someone. Still, excellent graphics, helicopter missions, treaure hunts and many other things make Far Cry 5 a good game.”

“A wonderful continuation of the series. Far Cry 5 adjusted a well-known formula enough to make the chase after brilliant antagonists very fun and exciting.”

“Far Cry 5 is unbridled fun, just the right amount of over-the-top and technically solid. It's not revolutionary, but it's one of the most complete chapters in the series. It's worth it for those looking for action, chaos and freedom in generous doses.”

“Whether intentionally or not, the game gives glory to a brand of grassroots militia fetishism that, just days before the its release, millions of Americans marched in the streets to oppose. Far Cry 5 posits that people would need to be brainwashed to follow men like Joseph Seed, blind to how deep Christian fanaticism already runs, and how many would follow such a man if he only said the word "please."”

“Far Cry 5 is gorgeous, fun and at times a little bonkers, but sadly not immune from the open world fatigue that often creeps into titles in the genre.”

“These issues notwithstanding, Far Cry 5 is a welcome entry in a series that's been consistently entertaining over the years. The campaign is filled with memorable characters, robust progression, and action galore that all combine to make it a treat to play.”

“Far Cry 5 is a weird case - some things are much better than before, and some definitely are not. A giant, exciting sandbox full of activities provides lots of satisfaction but there is not enough emphasis on storyline and the campaign itself. It is not a bad game but it would be nice to finally redefine madness and make something better than the excellent Far Cry 3.”

“As far as sub-par first person shooters go, you could do much worse than Far Cry 5.”

“Overall Far Cry 5 gets a 7/10, it feels like it has taken away many points that made the series so fun and immersive in the past. Gunplay is still fun, with plenty of options for your arms, but with the new skill system, it does force you outside of your preferred gameplay style more than once.”

“Far Cry 5, while having some issues, such as the janky AI and a rather far-fetched plot, more than makes up for these things with some compelling and truly innovative approaches from Ubisoft. There is a real sense that it put a lot of love back into a series that over the last spin-off and fully-fledged entry was possibly becoming mundane. The world set in the USA presents a real contrast to the tropical paradise settings of all the previous entries. Additionally, the organic approach to missions and narrative advancement mean that Far Cry 5 avoids the 'cleaning up of the map' feel that some previous games have conveyed. The gunplay is smooth and fantastic and the graphics are stunning. Anyone who hasn't played a Far Cry game before needs to get this and any doubters of Ubisoft's ability to deliver a truly great open-world title need to do likewise.”

“Far Cry 5 succeeds on the strengths of its extraordinary batch of villains, wildly fun gameplay, and solid world-building that’s expected with Ubisoft games.”

“Far Cry 5 offers a new, interesting perspective on the Far Cry series and it’s a much needed one to stop the series from becoming stale. The Co-op mode is the highlight and you’ll get hours of enjoyment out of it should you stick around and explore Hope County to its fullest.”
