How this score was computed
The VGC Score is a weighted blend on a press-comparable 0-100 quality scale. Steam approval rates are first calibrated (95% positive on Steam ≈ 89.5 quality, since Steam approval skews high). Press and tracked creator reviews each count ~2x a player review and share one cap against player evidence (creator buy/skip calls pool into an approval rate, calibrated like Steam approval); all-time sentiment is capped and halved (it's context, not verdict); reviews of the current build carry the most weight when a fresh patch anchors the window; and a 'typical game' prior keeps small samples from pegging the scale. Because press reviews and Metacritic user aggregates describe the launch build, their weight decays as the game ages (3-year half-life after a 1-year grace). That's how a game that launched rough can outgrow its old reception once updates win players over. Reviews under 2h playtime (the refund window), non-Steam activations, and free copies are downweighted.
| Component | Positive | Quality (0-100) | Weight (pseudo-reviews) |

| All-time Steam reviews | 91% | 85 | 162 |
| Metacritic user ratings | – | – | 0 |
| Post-patch Steam reviews (trust-weighted) | 100% | 97 | 1 |

“Followers of melancholic-looking puzzle titles who like to sit down and cosy up on a rainy Sunday afternoon and test their brain with some slow-paced, solo gaming sessions will want to give this one a spin. The title does a good job of churning out challenges that will keep you entertained for hours at a time. However, if a deep story that whisks you off your feet with a meaningful narrative, tight plot and likeable characters is more your bag, then Flood of Light isn't the title for you. We recommend spending your cash on something like Candle: The Power Of The Flame to scratch your 2D Puzzler itch.”

“While touchscreen use is possible, this game is best enjoyed as a handheld game as it's easy to switch between controls and feel the light use of the Switch's HD rumble. The mechanics are explained and demonstrated very clearly to get players started, but it's important to think outside the box as the puzzles increase in difficulty. It's easy to feel frustrated for a while on a certain area, but once you strike on the solution, the game feels wonderfully satisfying.”

“Flood of Light is a charming and very relaxing puzzle experience that will keep you engaged for a handful of hours as you try to lower the water level of a city abandoned by its people. Sure, it has a minimal story that is told by the robots you meet and the letters you collect from the mailboxes you search, but the solid difficulty curve for puzzles and its simple gameplay mechanics will keep you coming back for more.”

“Flood of Light is a challenging but clever puzzler. Some of its tougher puzzles require some head-hurting thinking, but at least a plot twist at the end is strong reward.”

“Flood of Light is an engaging puzzle game with a great atmosphere and relaxing soundtrack. There's enough difficulty in it to satisfy those looking for a challenge, and the well-designed puzzles should satisfy most fans of the genre.”

“Flood of Light has an evocative mood, but its narrative is ultimately as lifeless as its central character. The gameplay centres on a single concept that’s mundane, fiddly and gets tiresome quickly. It’s not a bad game per se, it’s just not very exciting.”

“Flood of Light is a brain-teasing, puzzling, platformer that will give you hours of enjoyment and brain pains, in a good way. You will feel yourself being tested as you go from level to level, and you will feel good about solving these puzzles when you are done.”

“Flood of Light is a beautiful and fascinating game with a story that feels new and effectively told through pieces of text and mystery. The puzzles are fresh, and gain challenge and new mechanics as you progress, never feeling old or exhausted. The hand-drawn art style combined with amazing audio will allure you into the enchanting Hope City while you search for answers. If you enjoy puzzle games and subtle but intriguing stories, then you should definitely play Flood of Light. ”

“Flood of Light is a passable title for those that are hankering for a few hours of puzzle solving. While repetitive settings and cumbersome controls hamper the overall experience, there's enough here to justify the $4.99 price tag.”

“Even if puzzle games aren't your thing, it's worth fighting through its obstacles and frustrations, or using a guide to carry you through, which I ended up resorting to, in order to experience Flood of Light's beautiful, melancholic yet hopeful vision of a post-climate change world.”

“Flood of Light is a new addition to the already extensive catalogue of puzzle-based games available at the Nintendo Switch eShop. With an original approach and seasoned with an attractive visual and musical aspect, we find a totally recommendable proposal within the puzzle games available for the Nintendo hybrid”

“In terms of puzzles alone Flood of Light is acceptable, but everything else drags it down. The audiovisual experience is one-note, and the story is unsatisfying even when it can be clearly understood. As an experience overall, Flood of Light ends up being merely mediocre.”
