How this score was computed
The VGC Score is a weighted blend on a press-comparable 0-100 quality scale. Steam approval rates are first calibrated (95% positive on Steam ≈ 89.5 quality, since Steam approval skews high). Press and tracked creator reviews each count ~2x a player review and share one cap against player evidence (creator buy/skip calls pool into an approval rate, calibrated like Steam approval); all-time sentiment is capped and halved (it's context, not verdict); reviews of the current build carry the most weight when a fresh patch anchors the window; and a 'typical game' prior keeps small samples from pegging the scale. Because press reviews and Metacritic user aggregates describe the launch build, their weight decays as the game ages (3-year half-life after a 1-year grace). That's how a game that launched rough can outgrow its old reception once updates win players over. Reviews under 2h playtime (the refund window), non-Steam activations, and free copies are downweighted.
| Component | Positive | Quality (0-100) | Weight (pseudo-reviews) |

| Creator reviews (3 tracked) | – | 71 | 3 |
| All-time Steam reviews | 77% | 72 | 1000 |
| Metacritic user ratings | – | – | 0 |
| Post-patch Steam reviews (trust-weighted) | 84% | 77 | 85 |

“So much about Scorn feels like a trap. It’s designed to cost you progress, to waste your time, and some might think this burdensome despair is some sort of brilliance on the part of the developers. To someone who values their finite time on Earth, it’s snide crap that shows contempt for its audience at every opportunity.”

“Give Scorn a chance if you feel like you can enjoy this game as an experience, rather than a strictly gameplay-focused project. Otherwise some questionable design choices and short length will most likely just bore you to death.”

“Scorn is an unusual horror game unlike any other. Ebb Software created a surreal experience built not on gameplay but on the actual feeling you get from playing the game. The atmosphere is heavy, and sometimes it gets a little more gross than usual. However, that may be one of the main reasons to push you forward. Mediocre gameplay is redeemed by stunning visuals, an overall feel, and excellent sound design.”

“A mediocre adventure with a fantastic scenery that's really lacking in a gameplay department. For that reason, the beauty alone can't hold your attention for too long.”

“Equally fascinating and frustrating, Scorn is a huge paradox. Ebb Software’s debut is a fantastic game where the desire to explore new areas is endless, but it still feels that a lot of their ideas were restricted by the market the team aims to please. A must for big horror fans, not much for anyone else.”

“Scorn has left an indelible impression on us. One of those video games that must be experienced in their entirety, resulting from years of development, passion, and expertise, squeezing the players’ minds into a psychological journey where the illusion of nightmare meets realities. It is a new first-person survival horror game with a strong artistic component, a technical and sound sector that pays close attention to the smallest details, a gameplay based on the resolution of complex puzzles, and a simple but unusual combat system.”

“Which is exactly why it pains me to remember that Scorn was a long time coming, and while the visuals suffer nothing for it, the mechanical design of the game at large feels outdated and incongruous with its aesthetic triumphs. Despite a solid (if somewhat superficial) iteration of survival horror mechanics, the lack of enemy variety and an archaic checkpoint system guarantee multiple spots of unnecessary frustration. These sections end up being little more than forced time away from the game’s proper strengths of puzzles and atmosphere. Scorn is still a journey worth taking for its appearance and environments alone, but I would have traded away every single repetitive combat encounter for just one more puzzle to sink my teeth into.”

“Scorn is certainly not for the squeamish or those not familiar with body horror, I can tell you that. However, if you're into Cronenberg and body horror, you'll love Scorn. Scorn is best experienced with no prior knowledge or tips because that's how a game like Scorn is meant to be experienced.”

“Ebb Software's rigid focus will immediately put off some (for fair reasons), but also earn the respect of horror fans who can stomach this grotesque world.”

“The world of the Scorn is one of the most mysterious and exciting I’ve ever seen, and it’ll stay in my mind for a long time until I can analyze the story and understand what’s going on in this weird place. If you’re like me and don’t have a problem trying new and different things before judging, then I highly recommend Scorn. But if you're hoping for a big story and action-packed gameplay, then stay away from it so you won't be disappointed.”

“Scorn presents some incredible art direction and a biomechanical Giger fever dream of a world to get lost in, but that’s exactly what you’ll be doing in it for most of your time: getting lost.”

“Scorn really brings the art that inspired to 3D life, meshes it with good music, and presents it on a stable platform. But the mundane puzzles and poor combat drag it down.”
