How this score was computed

The VGC Score is a weighted blend on a press-comparable 0-100 quality scale. Steam approval rates are first calibrated (95% positive on Steam ≈ 89.5 quality, since Steam approval skews high). Press and tracked creator reviews each count ~2x a player review and share one cap against player evidence (creator buy/skip calls pool into an approval rate, calibrated like Steam approval); all-time sentiment is capped and halved (it's context, not verdict); reviews of the current build carry the most weight when a fresh patch anchors the window; and a 'typical game' prior keeps small samples from pegging the scale. Because press reviews and Metacritic user aggregates describe the launch build, their weight decays as the game ages (3-year half-life after a 1-year grace). That's how a game that launched rough can outgrow its old reception once updates win players over. Reviews under 2h playtime (the refund window), non-Steam activations, and free copies are downweighted.

When you don't have any other games left to play you can play Cloudpunk. With great style, the developers were not able to tell an interesting story. On the other hand, we have a great option for those who want to play something against the background of show or podcast. Which is basically not bad.

Cloudpunk has its share of problems with pacing and collectibles. However, the game still offers an interesting story, great driving and viscous cyberpunk atmosphere.

For Cloudpunk, hardship is merely the wallpaper for a pretty yet thinly conceived gaming experience.

Although marred by poor acting and inconsistent writing, Cloudpunk is visually and audibly impressive. Take things slow and you'll get the best experience out of it.

Cloudpunk on Switch is a hugely disappointing port that struggles technically and ultimately fails to deliver the game in a satisfactory manner on Nintendo's hybrid platform. Merge Games have made drastic cuts all over, with a massively reduced draw-distance sucking much of the life out of Nivalis, volumetric effects missing entirely, pixellation rampant and a framerate that still chugs along in the face of all of these concessions. If you've got a PC capable of playing this one we'd highly recommend you play on that platform as this is an adventure that's well worth experiencing in its original form. This particular version, however, should probably be avoided.

It’s a relatively short ride and well worth taking, as long as one’s expectations are dialed in correctly from the outset.

Cloudpunk was a stunningly unique visual looking voxel title and with the new additions, it’s even more stunning and immersive. While it may be the visuals that bring you forth, it’s the gameplay that will get you to stay, if you allow yourself to be immersed in its relaxed gameplay style, interesting world and quirky inhabitants.

With an interesting steampunk / futuristic look with huge skyscrapers and vehicles flying through the clouds people were excited by early looks at Cloudpunk...

Cloudpunk absolutely nails the cyberpunk aesthetic, but it backs up style with substance. A thoughtful and sensitive story, interesting characters, and some challenging environmental puzzles all make its attractive setting really fun to play around in, even if there are limitations.

Gameplay-wise, as an employee of Cloudpunk you're expected to deliver packages around Nivalis, sometimes within a time limit. You'll do this by piloting your HOVA, a flying car that you can customise, around the city, keeping an eye on both how much gas you've got left and whether your vehicle needs any repairs. It's simple and straight-forward, and it amuses just enough to keep Cloudpunk from dragging during it's nigh 10-hour running time.

I'm pretty sure that underneath these performance issues there is an interesting world ready to be explored. But the game's problems run deeper than it's graphical shortcomings. The pacing feels slow and doesn't give the player many options to fully explore the world that is being presented. If Cloudpunk looks interesting to you, I'd highly recommend you look into other possible versions you might be able to play, because the Switch simply isn't the place to explore the city of Nivalis.

An amazing looking game with an interesting premise, let down by shallow gameplay and stuttered flow of story and dialogue
