How this score was computed

The VGC Score is a weighted blend on a press-comparable 0-100 quality scale. Steam approval rates are first calibrated (95% positive on Steam ≈ 89.5 quality, since Steam approval skews high). Press and tracked creator reviews each count ~2x a player review and share one cap against player evidence (creator buy/skip calls pool into an approval rate, calibrated like Steam approval); all-time sentiment is capped and halved (it's context, not verdict); reviews of the current build carry the most weight when a fresh patch anchors the window; and a 'typical game' prior keeps small samples from pegging the scale. Because press reviews and Metacritic user aggregates describe the launch build, their weight decays as the game ages (3-year half-life after a 1-year grace). That's how a game that launched rough can outgrow its old reception once updates win players over. Reviews under 2h playtime (the refund window), non-Steam activations, and free copies are downweighted.

The Beast Inside has great deep atmosphere and interesting plot, but the impression will definitely be spoiled because of bad stealth sections and wandering through the maze.

In my opinion, the best parts of the game definitely take place at night with Nicolas. If you like horror games, *The Beast Inside* is perfect for you. It’s sure to give you more than a few heart-stopping moments. Every player will also appreciate that they can decide their own fate.

In conclusion, The Beast Inside exemplifies how small independent studios can carve out a significant space in the gaming market through original concepts, unwavering dedication, and a clear creative vision, delivering rich, thoughtfully crafted experiences despite limited budgets. This title offers a deeply compelling and meaningful contribution to the psychological horror genre, immersing players in a tense narrative journey marked by a dark, oppressive atmosphere. This atmosphere is painstakingly built through detailed environments, exceptional sound design, and a narrative that stimulates both intellect and emotion. The game’s narrative structure, shifting between past and present, is particularly commendable, adding layers of complexity and depth while sustaining suspense throughout. This storytelling approach skillfully explores profound themes such as the duality of the human psyche, the nature of evil, and the weight of past trauma, all without falling into clichés or predictable tropes. The gameplay is fairly typical for the genre, deliberately paced and unhurried, allowing space for emotional engagement, reflection, atmosphere, and narrative immersion, fostering a deeper connection to the game world. This experience is further enhanced by striking visual and auditory elements. Despite some minor flaws, I wholeheartedly recommend this title to fans of psychological horror and intricate storytelling, dark and enigmatic at first, yet gradually guiding the player toward the light. It is a journey that demands patience, focus, and contemplation, ultimately leaving a lasting sense of satisfaction long after the credits roll.

Absolutely cranks up the tension and frights in spots, and has a few decent puzzles, but it isn’t without issues

One can clearly see the ambition in The Beast Inside, but the developer's lack of experience means it doesn't actually reach those heights.

The Beast Inside is an uneven horror experience, even if it does have some truly bone-chilling moments.

The perfect mix of survival horror and a traditional adventure video game. An indie with an enviable artistic design and really scary scenarios.

Overall I was very impressed by The Beast Inside not only for the visual aspects but also for the story of how the game was developed and came to be.  This game was started on Kickstarter and within a reasonable amount of time reached its goals and then some. There is defiantly a few scenes that will stay in my memory, that aside everything is going to be rather memorable. Sure enough, I will be playing The Beast Inside a few more times over to see all the little things that I might have missed. I would give this game a solid 7 out of 10.

The Beast Inside finally arrives on consoles bringing with it the undeniable appeal that has made it so successful on Steam. A charm due to a presentation that aspires to photorealism, with a compelling story somewhere between thriller and horror through two different historical eras. An excellent variety of situations and a very good longevity are further winning elements of a production that at the same time fails to hide a simplicity of structure and mechanics. This is a little gem from a small development team, which we recommend to fans of the genre and those who want to try something different and genuinely engaging.

The Beast Inside is a a game with two souls: the first is close to a political thriller, the second one is more suitable for the genre and offers true moments of horror.
