How this score was computed

The VGC Score is a weighted blend on a press-comparable 0-100 quality scale. Steam approval rates are first calibrated (95% positive on Steam ≈ 89.5 quality, since Steam approval skews high). Press and tracked creator reviews each count ~2x a player review and share one cap against player evidence (creator buy/skip calls pool into an approval rate, calibrated like Steam approval); all-time sentiment is capped and halved (it's context, not verdict); reviews of the current build carry the most weight when a fresh patch anchors the window; and a 'typical game' prior keeps small samples from pegging the scale. Because press reviews and Metacritic user aggregates describe the launch build, their weight decays as the game ages (3-year half-life after a 1-year grace). That's how a game that launched rough can outgrow its old reception once updates win players over. Reviews under 2h playtime (the refund window), non-Steam activations, and free copies are downweighted.

Asterix and Obelix XXL 2 isn't a bad game, but it deserves a remake more than a remaster, because it can be just as entertaining as it is boring. The in-game references will put a smile on your face, but that smile will quickly fade after a few dozen minutes of monotonous gameplay.

Ultimately, Asterix & Obelix XXL2 is a PS2-era remaster that's not worth its near-AAA asking price. The brand new additions and lack of availability undoubtedly add some value, but this still feels like the decade-old game that it is. It may be worth the fairly hefty price tag for those with Asterix nostalgia or for an audience that wants to see what a late PS2 licensed platformer looks like, but it's hard to recommend otherwise. It's a game that deserves to be remembered and preserved, but the high cost will prevent many from experiencing this strong albeit unoriginal adventure.

The remastered version of the Indomitable Gauls' latest adventure is here, but is it worth going back to Las Vegum?

At the end of the day, the charm and well-loved characters are not enough to save Asterix & Obelix XXL 2. It feels like a slog of collecting a certain number of items to get from point A to point B, lather, rinse and repeat. Nothing lands well, other than the updated graphics. No amount of cheesy puns and well-pandered references could save a game from itself when it's poorly made, even if it was decently remastered.

These Gauls are back, and they are still crazy. And overpriced as well.

Astérix & Obélix XXL 2 is back after thirteen years, in a conversion adapted to the current generation. Under the form of an action and adventure game, Astérix & Obélix XXL 2 includes a wide amount of content and features several fun and enjoyable moments, even though its conversion could have used more work when it comes to the sound effects. Not a groundbreaking title but still a fun game, which should be sold for a lower price tag.

In the case of Asterix & Obelix XXL 2, the ravages of time are definitely noticeable, but they certainly weren't as cruel to the famous Gallic fighters as they were to other similarly styled titles. XXL 2 can still entertain even now and it can be enjoyed not only by the nostalgics, but also the younger players.

MEDIOCRE - Asterix & Obelix XXL 2 fits the bill if you're looking for a casual beat-em-up with some light puzzle solving elements. Unfortunately the repetitive combat and high price make it hard to stand out from other great Switch titles.

Ast'rix & Ob'lix XXL 2 is still nice today despite its age, especially for the youngest, and if this remaster could have been more generous, it fuels the curiosity about the upcoming third episode more developed and meeting the current technical standards.

Even with some issues like improper graphical options on the PC version of this remaster, XXL 2 is still an enjoyable experience for the fans of the original game. However, because most of the game's mechanics and features have not aged well, it will most likely not appeal to new audiences

If you happen to still love the Asterix & Obelix franchise, then I suppose Asterix & Obelix XXL 2 is a no-brainer. It’s not a bad game by any means, but it’s certainly not good or genre-defining in any way.

Another remaster that plays with our feelings and memories. A great option if we like the sharped sense of humor of the Asterx & Obelix universe and adds interesting references to videogames of the PS2 and Nintendo Gamecube years.
