How this score was computed
The VGC Score is a weighted blend on a press-comparable 0-100 quality scale. Steam approval rates are first calibrated (95% positive on Steam ≈ 89.5 quality, since Steam approval skews high). Press and tracked creator reviews each count ~2x a player review and share one cap against player evidence (creator buy/skip calls pool into an approval rate, calibrated like Steam approval); all-time sentiment is capped and halved (it's context, not verdict); reviews of the current build carry the most weight when a fresh patch anchors the window; and a 'typical game' prior keeps small samples from pegging the scale. Because press reviews and Metacritic user aggregates describe the launch build, their weight decays as the game ages (3-year half-life after a 1-year grace). That's how a game that launched rough can outgrow its old reception once updates win players over. Reviews under 2h playtime (the refund window), non-Steam activations, and free copies are downweighted.
| Component | Positive | Quality (0-100) | Weight (pseudo-reviews) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Press reviews (OpenCritic) | – | 75 | 24 |
| Creator reviews (1 tracked) | – | 75 | 1 |
| All-time Steam reviews | 95% | 90 | 1000 |
| Metacritic user ratings | – | 76 | 29 |
| Post-patch Steam reviews (trust-weighted) | 96% | 91 | 12 |
| Calibration prior (typical game) | – | 72 | 50 |
Acclaim gate: the raw blend lands at 88.4, but scores above 88 must be earned in front of a mass audience; this verdict rests on 7,428 player reviews, a largely self-selected fanbase. As more players weigh in, the ceiling rises (full scale unlocks at 100,000 reviews).

“This cute pun is a must for all cat and dog lovers. You'll enjoy it twice as much in co-op, but even as a lone wolf you won't regret it. It's exactly the kind of game where you think "I'll finish one more dungeon and turn it off," and suddenly it's three in the morning. Beautiful colorful environment, constant action, full of quests and the excitement of a bitter fight is complemented by pleasant music. Two cute playable characters that you can switch between at any time are the biggest plus. Cat Quest II definitely did well for the developers at The Gentlebros, even if it doesn't differ much from the first one.”

“As polished as Cat Quest may be, it does have a few downsides. The strong focus on cats and endless supply of cat puns is obviously not a world everyone will want to immerse themselves in, especially if you are a dog lover. However, if you are willing to overlook this and the basic design, what is on offer is a functional role-playing game that can be played for short or longer periods of time by players of all ages and cat lovers alike. ”

“Lovely, charming, with enough simplicity to offer creative freedom and expression. Cat Quest II is a must for those looking for relaxing and cute moments and some great coop action.”

“Cat Quest II: The Lupus Empire could be easily summarized as more Cat Quest, but that alone wouldn't encompass how fun the game is or its many improvements.”

“Cat Quest II is relatively short, but I’d argue it’s as long as it needs to be. I didn’t feel a need to break from the adventure solely for the sake of grinding, and I finished before I grew bored of the simple gameplay loop.”

“Cat Quest II is a good co-op RPG that can be enjoyed in short sessions with a close friend or family member. The simplicity of the game’s combat coupled with its little RPG nuances makes it an interesting experience for both casual gamers and fans of the genre.”

“Meow let me tell you about a purrfect game for fans of furry cuteness and action RPG action...”

“Cat Quest is an ideal little RPG to introduce to youngsters, especially given the charming pun-filled script and plentiful kitties, but those jumps in difficulty can mean a helping hand may be required on more than a few occasions. Despite its looks, though, the older generation with a love for all things feline will find a lovely, if short, Zelda-like adventure worth giving a go.”

“Charming, adorable, and delightful, Cat Quest 2 offers a solid adventure-RPG romp. Sadly, it's best played in short bursts due to repetitiveness, and you're bound to seek help from another player since the AI teammate can be downright incompetent.”

“It's a great little RPG that never outstays its welcome, offering bite-sized but addictive adventuring.”

“A great improvement from the first game, with more gameplay features and cat puns this time.”

“This is a game that is aware of its goofy setup and relishes in a sea of cat puns and insanity. It’s not a terribly long game - I rolled credits within a few hours - but it’s a fun romp with a straightforward and entertaining action RPG style. Cat Quest is a game that likely won’t stick with me for too long, but it was a pleasant time basking in cat gags and beating up on foes with swords and magic.”
