How this score was computed
The VGC Score is a weighted blend on a press-comparable 0-100 quality scale. Steam approval rates are first calibrated (95% positive on Steam ≈ 89.5 quality, since Steam approval skews high). Press and tracked creator reviews each count ~2x a player review and share one cap against player evidence (creator buy/skip calls pool into an approval rate, calibrated like Steam approval); all-time sentiment is capped and halved (it's context, not verdict); reviews of the current build carry the most weight when a fresh patch anchors the window; and a 'typical game' prior keeps small samples from pegging the scale. Because press reviews and Metacritic user aggregates describe the launch build, their weight decays as the game ages (3-year half-life after a 1-year grace). That's how a game that launched rough can outgrow its old reception once updates win players over. Reviews under 2h playtime (the refund window), non-Steam activations, and free copies are downweighted.

“Metal Eden presents itself as a visually striking yet brief action experience, boasting innovative gameplay mechanics. However, the game falls short in terms of boss encounters and narrative.”

“Metal Eden is a fast-paced boomer shooter FPS that takes the best from its inspirations. The weapons and abilities are perfectly balanced. Parkour is fluid and fun. The distant post-apocalyptic future settings are appropriately gloomy and beautiful. While the gameplay isn’t original, it’s incredibly immersive. The great atmosphere is enhanced by excellent sound design, awesome music, and a simple yet high-quality story. A minor flaw is its shorter length, though I wasn’t bored even once. The sense of accomplishment is great, and if you’re still hungry for more, try New Game+ with a significantly increased difficulty. I played on Normal, and with a gamepad, it was just right.”

“Despite its rough edges, questionable design decisions in some pace-breaking sections, and the bugs I encountered, my answer is a resounding yes. Metal Eden is a fantastic, addictive, and must-play first-person shooter for any action fan looking for an experience similar to DOOM: Eternal, but with a captivating personality all its own.”

“Metal Eden owes a lot to games like Ghostrunner and Doom, but it's far from a slavish clone. Thanks to its far-future setting, dystopian premise, core-ripping mechanic, and bold production design, it feels like its own thing.”

“Metal Eden surprised me, after eight years, Reikon Games delivers a technically accomplished shooter with a Core-Ripping system that develops genuine identity, even if the short campaign and uneven difficulty curve hold it back from its full potential.”

“2025 has had a deluge of top-tier games, and I fear Metal Eden might not be remembered for long. The game already has decent accessibility options, control customization, and difficulty settings, but there is not much encouragement to continue once the game is over.”

“METAL EDEN is an artistic achievement. The sci-fi game impresses with stunning visual direction and masterful audio design, and the soundtrack by Sonic Mayhem delivers a pulse-pounding experience. Although the combat mechanics borrow heavily from genre staples, the concentrated 6-hour campaign respects players' time and compensates with style and artistic intention. The result is a solid, if familiar, sci-fi FPS that punches above its weight class.”

“METAL EDEN is old-school shooter fun, spices up its gameplay with interesting ideas, and hooked me to the console its entire time. There's room for some improvements, but overall it's a wonderful title, and I'm already excited to see what Reikon Games will surprise us with in their next release.”

“Metal Eden doesn’t try to be everything. It isn’t a sprawling open world, and it isn’t a 40-hour epic. What it is, though, is a concentrated shot of kinetic energy. If Doom is the power fantasy and Titanfall is the movement masterclass, Metal Eden is the scrappy cousin that blends the two into something that’s lean, stylish, and just plain fun but repetitive.”

“METAL EDEN is an intense independent shooter that is fast-paced, interesting, and beautiful to look at. The story isn’t very clear, and the fighting can get in the way of the story sometimes, but that’s not a big deal when the gameplay is this fun.”

“Metal Eden is short, sweet and fundamentally quite enjoyable. The plot isn't much to write home about, and it's mostly a grey experience as far as the visuals are concerned, but the fun mobility options, innovative Core-ripping gameplay and varied arsenal of weapons make Metal Eden worth checking out for sci-fi shooter fans.”

“Metal Eden’s hyperkinetic and challenging gameplay that tested age-old strategies was appreciated, even if it’s science fiction city and story was too safe and generic to be memorable. It is not Metroid however much it might want to look like it on the shiny spherical surface.”
