The VGC Score is a weighted blend on a press-comparable 0-100 quality scale. Steam approval rates are first calibrated (95% positive on Steam ≈ 89.5 quality, since Steam approval skews high). Press and tracked creator reviews each count ~2x a player review and share one cap against player evidence (creator buy/skip calls pool into an approval rate, calibrated like Steam approval); all-time sentiment is capped and halved (it's context, not verdict); reviews of the current build carry the most weight when a fresh patch anchors the window; and a 'typical game' prior keeps small samples from pegging the scale. Because press reviews and Metacritic user aggregates describe the launch build, their weight decays as the game ages (3-year half-life after a 1-year grace). That's how a game that launched rough can outgrow its old reception once updates win players over. Reviews under 2h playtime (the refund window), non-Steam activations, and free copies are downweighted.

“ DOOM: The Dark Ages, Rivelazioni is an exceptional expansion that enhances and transforms an already rock-solid combat system. The Chain Spear stands out as one of the modern series’ most successful additions. The return of the dash, increased verticality, and the ability to switch between spear and shield bring the gameplay closer to the mobility of DOOM Eternal without sacrificing the weighty feel of The Dark Ages. While the story remains predictable and the controls require an adjustment period, these are minor flaws when weighed against the quality and volume of content on offer. At a time marked by uncertainty regarding id Software’s future, Rivelazioni once again demonstrates the studio’s technical and creative prowess. It represents a near-perfect blend of the brutality found in The Dark Ages and the speed of DOOM Eternal.”

“DOOM is synonymous with FPS games. It doesn't matter how much time passes. It doesn't matter how many companies try to take its crown. It doesn't matter if id Software runs out of employees. DOOM is an institution, and there's nothing Xbox, Microsoft, or any other company can do to change that. If this is the end of the saga that began in 2016, I'm more than certain the next chapter will be sensational.”

“DOOM: The Dark Ages - Revelations is another incredible addition to the series from id Software. The narrative is great, focusing more on the Slayer while being filled with both callbacks to the past and hints towards the future. Further, the new gameplay additions make combat absolutely thrilling, in part thanks to the sizeable post-game and incredible soundtrack. While the level and enemy designs are sometimes lackluster, Revelations further cements The Dark Ages as arguably the best entry in the modern Doom trilogy. ”

“DOOM: The Dark Ages - Revelations is one of the most unexpected gaming treks I've ever gone on. A more personal and memorable storyline, coupled with greater exploration and puzzle-solving, isn't quite what came to mind for me when I thought of this series, but I wholeheartedly embraced and adored it. When also considering inventive new combat applications and a greater sense of challenge, Revelations is a confident approach that I believe will delight the more dedicated DOOM crowd. Despite reassurances, the future of id Software is arguably up in the air, but I am glad that, at the very least, they got to deliver a remarkable trilogy with a standout DLC to potentially close it out. ”

“Fulfilling its role as a DLC by expanding upon the qualities of the base game, DOOM: The Dark Ages - Revelations is practically a must-have. The added story complements the campaign very well, as does the debut of the Spear enhances the gameplay. Its combat and movement capabilities allow you to tackle the missions and other challenges, all of which are radical and intense. Now we await the next iteration of this classic FPS franchise that has reinvented itself for modern times since 2016.”

“Doom: The Dark Ages | Revelations does what any good DLC should do: give you more of what the base game did right, while also adding in new layers. The addition of the Chain Spear brings back a handful of beloved Doom Eternal mechanics, spicing up gunplay with new capabilities and movement options. The choice to reveal the Slayer's past adds dimensions to a character and better frames his actions in Doom 2016 and Doom Eternal. The narrative may be a breeze, but the DLC is jam-packed with extra content to keep you entertained long after its conclusion. Not everything is sunshine and rainbows, though. While versatile, the Chain Spear stretches the limits of what can be done with modern controllers and keyboards. It's not easy to find a control scheme that feels natural given how many actions are tied to each button. The overarching story is also quite weak. The focus on the Slayer sucks all the oxygen out of the other major threads. It also has a rather disappointing ending that's more determined to set up a fourth Doom game or a second DLC instead of delivering a satisfying conclusion. Despite these issues, Doom: The Dark Ages | Revelations is still a good DLC that gives players more of The Dark Ages, a little bit of Eternal, and a lot of demon slaying. This DLC easily escapes Purgatory.”
