How this score was computed
The VGC Score is a weighted blend on a press-comparable 0-100 quality scale. Steam approval rates are first calibrated (95% positive on Steam ≈ 89.5 quality, since Steam approval skews high). Press and tracked creator reviews each count ~2x a player review and share one cap against player evidence (creator buy/skip calls pool into an approval rate, calibrated like Steam approval); all-time sentiment is capped and halved (it's context, not verdict); reviews of the current build carry the most weight when a fresh patch anchors the window; and a 'typical game' prior keeps small samples from pegging the scale. Because press reviews and Metacritic user aggregates describe the launch build, their weight decays as the game ages (3-year half-life after a 1-year grace). That's how a game that launched rough can outgrow its old reception once updates win players over. Reviews under 2h playtime (the refund window), non-Steam activations, and free copies are downweighted.

“Granblue Fantasy: Versus is not only an incredibly fun 2D fighter, but probably the best-looking one I have ever played. The combat, while streamlined a bit with the skill system, actually has a good amount of depth to it, making it a great choice for both veterans and newcomers alike.”

“Granblue Fantasy Versus is an incredibly beautiful fighting game with nice characters, atmospheric arenas and bright effects, which is great for the beginners, but does not forget about the depth of the combat system. The number of characters at the moment is quite poor, but they are well-developed and differ from each other in terms of gameplay. Given the long life of the progenitor and the already announced DLC, you can expect good support and a lot of content in future.”

“A boring single player campaign and poor, delay based netcode really bring down what is otherwise an excellent 2D fighting game. Fantastic visuals, excellent controls, and just a ton of fun to play, however you're much better off waiting for the updated Granblue Fantasy: Versus Rising to come out instead.”

“These presentation issues definitely temper my excitement for what is easily one of the more accessible fighting games I’ve had the opportunity to play. Then again, that feeling of accessibility likely comes from the fact that I’ve mostly focused on the single-player mode here, a mode that everyone, not just fighting gamers, can enjoy.”

“I am impressed with 2020’s first fighting game offering. Not only will veterans enjoy the best of both a Street Fighter and an anime fighter title, but newbies will have fun getting into an accessible fighting game that gets deeper over time.”

“A fantastic experience for anyone who enjoys fighting games, and probably a great one even if you're not a big fan of the genre.”

“This gorgeous anime-style fantasy fighter is great for beginners and fans of 2D brawlers. It's fun, and flashy with genuinely endearing characters. However, a somewhat underdeveloped single-player experience and dated netcode hold it back from being truly top-tier.”

“Arc System Works has done it again. Granblue Fantasy Versus is a fantastic-feeling fighting game that's jaw-droppingly gorgeous at times.”

“Although Granblue Fantasy: Versus’ small roster and poor story mode gameplay hold it back, highly polished fighting mechanics and a great sense of style make this fighter a successful debut for the series on a larger scale.”

“Granblue Fantasy: Versus makes a great first impression with its stellar visual flair but falls a bit short on the gameplay department with simplistic combat mechanics and a story mode that becomes boring a little too quickly.”

“Granblue Fantasy: Versus, Legendary Edition is a worthy addition to any fighting fan’s collection. It’s not perfect, to me it feels a bit like a lesser version of Guilty Gear at times. But it’s a whole lot of fun. The presentation is slick, the RPG mode has some longevity to it, and this Legendary Edition adds a lot of characters to an already solid roster. I’m glad I didn’t miss out on this title a second time.”

“Granblue Fantasy Versus, is another essential game for digital fighting enthusiasts. Although it is a franchise little recognized in the West, its history, characters and above all gameplay will certainly bring this title to the fore and to competitive stages. This is a high quality product, the same one that arc system works has already accustomed us to.”
