How this score was computed
The VGC Score is a weighted blend on a press-comparable 0-100 quality scale. Steam approval rates are first calibrated (95% positive on Steam ≈ 89.5 quality, since Steam approval skews high). Press and tracked creator reviews each count ~2x a player review and share one cap against player evidence (creator buy/skip calls pool into an approval rate, calibrated like Steam approval); all-time sentiment is capped and halved (it's context, not verdict); reviews of the current build carry the most weight when a fresh patch anchors the window; and a 'typical game' prior keeps small samples from pegging the scale. Because press reviews and Metacritic user aggregates describe the launch build, their weight decays as the game ages (3-year half-life after a 1-year grace). That's how a game that launched rough can outgrow its old reception once updates win players over. Reviews under 2h playtime (the refund window), non-Steam activations, and free copies are downweighted.
| Component | Positive | Quality (0-100) | Weight (pseudo-reviews) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Press reviews (OpenCritic) | – | 82 | 22 |
| Creator reviews (1 tracked) | – | 96 | 1 |
| All-time Steam reviews | 95% | 90 | 1000 |
| Metacritic user ratings | – | 79 | 13 |
| Post-patch Steam reviews (trust-weighted) | 96% | 91 | 11 |
| Calibration prior (typical game) | – | 72 | 50 |
Acclaim gate: the raw blend lands at 88.5, but scores above 88 must be earned in front of a mass audience; this verdict rests on 14,101 player reviews, a largely self-selected fanbase. As more players weigh in, the ceiling rises (full scale unlocks at 100,000 reviews).

“Everhood is one of the most memorable games we’ve played in recent years. Its utterly bonkers plot and weird cast of characters is reason enough to check it out, but the instantly accessible rhythmic combat will keep you hooked from the very first battle to the epic final boss encounter. Some may be put off by the minimal visual design and deliberately vague sequence of events, but for those after something a bit different, Everhood delivers originality and unique gameplay in spades and absolutely deserves a place in your Switch library.”

“During its six-hour runtime, not counting the New Game Plus mode that gives access to extra battles, secrets, and endings, Everhood manages to not only distinguish itself from its influences, but also to turn the expectations that come with them upside-down, all to provide an experience that can’t be found anywhere else. Whether or not the game will achieve a cult status remains to be seen, but players itching for something out of the ordinary better not let Everhood slip under their radar.”

“Everhood is nothing if not memorable. There’s flaws here and there, but they pale in comparison to the fun and unique time I had. It’s not a very long game, taking around six hours or so for the true ending, but there’s plenty of different choices to make and self-imposed challenges to try.”

“Chris Nordgren and Jordi Roca have captured lightning in a bottle with a highly original game that has the potential to become the next Undertale.”

“As a huge fan of music of all kinds any games that manage to incorporate music and rhythm into the mix tend to catch my attention...”

“There's a lot to like about Everhood, with its unorthodox but engaging battles, bizarre world, and interesting story. While we didn't gel with many of the characters and found some of its insane visuals a little too much, overall we enjoyed the journey.”

“Even though the message of Everhood may not entirely land, the aural, visual, and gameplay experience, as a whole, is among the best on Switch. The rhythm combat is nothing short of perfection, and that it can be made more accessible by changing the difficulty at any time is sublime. ”

“Everhood is a weird game worth experiencing.”

“This isn’t exactly a rhythm game. While its descriptor may not be accurate, it’s still a marvellous game. Already a cult hit with fans of Undertale and other games of the sort, Everhood is a bizarre and groovy adventure that can’t be missed.”

“Everhood is a fun rhythm game with a mystic and eerie story, full of esoteric and cosmic vibes. It is the anti-Undertale, in term of narrative choices, but Foreign Gnomes cannot escape Toby Fox’s shadow.”

“Everhood: Eternity Edition is a very successful rhythm adventure game, but it fails to reach the level of stardom of the game from which it is inspired. It's a very fun adventure, with a different combat style, a well-built world and a soundtrack that makes me tap my foot. But it tries too hard and without success to be a new Undertale, ending up leaving something to be desired in some moments of the story (especially in the ending) and in the characters it presents. It's a great, great indie, which I'll want to return to more often, but it falls a little short in some aspects, which prevents it from being a title for the ages.”

“Everhood struck me in the heart, arousing my deepest curiosity already after the first hour, in which I realized that within it there was a much deeper philosophical reflection than one might think looking at it in a superficial way. It has rarely happened to me to face an indie title so well crafted and full of possibilities even in its simplistic realization. But despite all this, it may not be able to conquer everyone, precisely because of this strangeness that may not be appreciated and understood by many. Everhood absolutely doesn’t claim to have the best storyline of the decade, but its purpose must be carefully sought in all the details wisely placed by the Foreign Gnomes inside it, and only in this way the player will be able to access the real ending. A videogame experience that I highly recommend because of what it left me and absolutely replayable to discover the various narrative possibilities it offers.”
