How this score was computed

The VGC Score is a weighted blend on a press-comparable 0-100 quality scale. Steam approval rates are first calibrated (95% positive on Steam ≈ 89.5 quality, since Steam approval skews high). Press and tracked creator reviews each count ~2x a player review and share one cap against player evidence (creator buy/skip calls pool into an approval rate, calibrated like Steam approval); all-time sentiment is capped and halved (it's context, not verdict); reviews of the current build carry the most weight when a fresh patch anchors the window; and a 'typical game' prior keeps small samples from pegging the scale. Because press reviews and Metacritic user aggregates describe the launch build, their weight decays as the game ages (3-year half-life after a 1-year grace). That's how a game that launched rough can outgrow its old reception once updates win players over. Reviews under 2h playtime (the refund window), non-Steam activations, and free copies are downweighted.

Acclaim gate: the raw blend lands at 88.2, but scores above 88 must be earned in front of a mass audience; this verdict rests on 1,249 player reviews, a largely self-selected fanbase. As more players weigh in, the ceiling rises (full scale unlocks at 100,000 reviews).

Sumerian Six is an ambitious game with an original concept and a compelling story. The combination of real-time tactics, stealth elements, and an occult-themed alternate history of World War II is intriguing and offers a unique gaming experience. The game boasts detailed locations, a diverse cast of characters, and an atmospheric soundtrack. However, Sumerian Six suffers from several shortcomings that detract from the overall experience. The story is occasionally overcomplicated, and the motivations of some characters seem illogical. The gameplay suffers from unpredictable artificial intelligence and repetitive missions. Despite these shortcomings, Sumerian Six is an interesting game that deserves attention. It is an ambitious project that attempts to do something new and original.

With some extremely highs, but also very lows, “Sumerian Six” carries on the spirit of the stealth genre left by Mimimi Productions. Although a bit too easy sometimes, it has enough charm and beautiful vistas for you to experiment with crazy tactics, and, of course, punch nazis.

Made so much better now that I can play it on my Xbox. Artificer has crafted an enjoyable game that blends the occult and science in an interesting story AND lets you knock out some Nazis, what’s not to love here?

Sumerian Six will more than suffice in filling the tactics-shaped hole you may have in your heart. Though its story isn't all there and it's far from original, it's made up for with an electric cast with devastating and creative abilities. This sandbox nature of killing in inventive ways is only bolstered by intricate and smart level design that allows for many a cool Nazi-slaying moment. Artificer have pulled off the difficult mission of replicating the giants that came before them while showcasing enough of their own creative juices. Job well done.

Whilst Mimimi Games might be sadly gone, real-time tactics lovers shouldn't fear as Artificer Games are here to continue their legacy. Not only a brilliant console conversion, Sumerian Six is a thrillingly inventive real-time strategy game in its own right, one that encapsulates much of what made Shadow Tactics, Desperados 3, and Shadow Gambit so great, though this time with the added fun of mauling Nazis.

Sumerian Six is perfect for short bursts of play, but it’s not a game you'll likely want to binge. It boasts solid visuals, a great soundtrack, and a meticulously designed gameplay loop centered on synergy and strategy. However, with so much to tackle in each mission, you might find yourself fatigued long before reaching the end of its somewhat meandering story, assuming you don’t get soft-locked along the way.

Sumerian Six blends stealth-tactics gameplay with creative abilities and detailed level design. Its story and cutscenes may fall short, but the challenging missions and unique character abilities make it a rewarding experience. Fans of Shadow Tactics and Desperados III will find this a strong addition to the genre.

While it does little that is genuinely new, and exists firmly in the shadow of its forebears, Sumerian Six is a thoroughly competent addition to the small canon of real-time stealth tactics games. It is a must-play for any fan of the genre. While Artificer were sadly subjected to job losses this year by their owner-publishers Devolver, hopefully they will have the chance to make an even stronger contribution to stealth tactics in the future.

"Artificer’s Sumerian Six is a standout in the strategy game genre, offering a challenging and unique experience with quirky characters and a storyline that blends history and folklore. While the game starts off tough and requires players to master the basics and adjust keybindings, it soon allows for creative strategy through character abilities in real-time action, complemented by a planning function that could use some fine-tuning. The well-designed levels and optional challenges provide a detailed and customizable experience for players seeking varying levels of difficulty."
