How this score was computed
The VGC Score is a weighted blend on a press-comparable 0-100 quality scale. Steam approval rates are first calibrated (95% positive on Steam ≈ 89.5 quality, since Steam approval skews high). Press and tracked creator reviews each count ~2x a player review and share one cap against player evidence (creator buy/skip calls pool into an approval rate, calibrated like Steam approval); all-time sentiment is capped and halved (it's context, not verdict); reviews of the current build carry the most weight when a fresh patch anchors the window; and a 'typical game' prior keeps small samples from pegging the scale. Because press reviews and Metacritic user aggregates describe the launch build, their weight decays as the game ages (3-year half-life after a 1-year grace). That's how a game that launched rough can outgrow its old reception once updates win players over. Reviews under 2h playtime (the refund window), non-Steam activations, and free copies are downweighted.

“As an introduction to a new console generation, Sackboy: A Big Adventure is a big, bold, colourful platformer that makes up for any visual shortcomings with some excellent level design and a killer soundtrack.”

“Sackboy: A Big Adventure is a great family-friendly platformer, that makes good use of DualSense unique properties, but also features some really memorable, dense, and original levels. The only drawbacks here are mandatory blue sphere collection and co-op only worlds that you can't complete solo without any friends or family members.”

“Sackboy has never been cuter, and in short, thanks to the added full-fledged story, you see him as the little hero who can do impossible things. The game takes a recommendation of 8 points and is another great family exclusive game, which we simply missed on PlayStation.”

“If Sackboy: A Big Adventure hadn’t been released on PC, it would have been reason enough to buy a PlayStation 4 or PlayStation 5. It’s a high-quality, simple, easy-to-control (once again, kudos to the port) and incredibly colorful game with an amazing soundtrack. Not to mention the likable main character and the overall design of the worlds, it’s as if the whole thing were one beautiful, long fairy tale. The only thing that bothered me was the occasional return to older levels and the emphasis on completing those few side quests. But those are minor details that don’t prevent the little rag-tag knight from shining.”

“I wasn’t sure we would be seeing Sackboy again after not seeing him in over 6 years, but I’m certainly glad he’s back and front and centre in this engaging platformer that can be enjoyed by people of all ages. I’m certainly keen for his next adventure, and really hope we don’t have to wait so long next time.”

“Sackboy turns in a solid performance, but treads over ground that has clearly been walked on by others.”

“Sackboy: A Big Adventure is easily one of the most charming and delightful games of the year, and another knockout launch title for the PlayStation 5 - and that's saying something considering it has to compete with Astro's Playroom. The levels are all creatively designed and endearing, the customizable choices for Sackboy is reminiscent of LittleBigPlanet, and the music is top-notch.”

“We know how crazy 2020 has been, but out of all the games I've played this year, Sackboy: A Big Adventure was the one I didn’t know I needed. It’s a fantastic platformer that appeals to players of all ages. You may feel uplifted, or encouraged, even. The game doesn’t reinvent the wheel for its genre, but the impressive execution, clever ideas, and extra effort behind this platformer proves that the world of Sackboy is a fun place to visit, and that the polish done to every aspect of the game makes it a must-buy for any enthusiast that owns a PS4 and PS5.”

“The port of Sackboy: A Big Adventure was made by the studio Sumo Digital, which is also the creator of the original version. Overall, the title takes the same content as before, but allows PC gamers to catch up, especially with the distribution of many costumes to customize its experience. Compatible with the Dualsense of the PS5, this version offers the highest experience. Despite some slowdowns, especially when using certain technologies such as Ray-Tracing, most of the bugs from the launch have been corrected by the developers. The PC version of Sackboy: A Big Adventure allows many players to discover this colorful and ingenious title that can be played solo or in teams.”

“There's a lot of love been poured into Sackboy: A Big Adventure, and thus it's hard not to love it back. This is a brilliant platformer with tons of imaginative ideas and a strong sense of style. The lack of online multiplayer at launch is a bit disappointing, but it's coming as a free update before the end of the year, so we can forgive the developer that. If you're looking for something bright and breezy to begin your PS5 journey, then this is a near-flawless romp when it's at its pomp.”

“A fun and well designed platformer that lacks the charm to make a long standing impact. You should try it if you want a good and family friendly game for PlayStation.”
