How this score was computed
The VGC Score is a weighted blend on a press-comparable 0-100 quality scale. Steam approval rates are first calibrated (95% positive on Steam ≈ 89.5 quality, since Steam approval skews high). Press and tracked creator reviews each count ~2x a player review and share one cap against player evidence (creator buy/skip calls pool into an approval rate, calibrated like Steam approval); all-time sentiment is capped and halved (it's context, not verdict); reviews of the current build carry the most weight when a fresh patch anchors the window; and a 'typical game' prior keeps small samples from pegging the scale. Because press reviews and Metacritic user aggregates describe the launch build, their weight decays as the game ages (3-year half-life after a 1-year grace). That's how a game that launched rough can outgrow its old reception once updates win players over. Reviews under 2h playtime (the refund window), non-Steam activations, and free copies are downweighted.

“A fun game and concept with a specific audience. The issues with the brightness and layout knocked it down a few points. But the overall graphics and uniqueness still made MADiSON a fairly enjoyable experience.”

“If you're a fan of horror games that focus more on atmosphere and scares rather than combat, then MADiSON is a no-brainer. It's not the most original game and it mostly follows the lead of pioneers like the aforementioned Outlast or even Hideo Kojima's P.T, but that doesn't matter. What you've got here is an effective horror experience regardless, and one that you're going to enjoy from start to finish.”

“All in all, MADiSON is a good game but a mediocre horror. I have some serious issues with it, but I can’t dismiss the potential. I believe the next game will be able to compete with Visage, and I’m already waiting for it impatiently.”

“With MADiSON, we experienced a truly immersive journey that profoundly impacted us through its ability to craft psychological horror that transcends genre clichés. The constant potential to be startled and terrified around every corner of the house is exactly what we seek in a title of this kind, and here, it is delivered flawlessly. Filtering reality and unreality through the lens of the Polaroid camera adds a nostalgic, retro flavor perfectly blended with modern horror sensibilities, harmonizing brilliantly with the darkness of both the story and the environment. The necessity to interpret and form one’s own understanding of what is seen creates a sense of interactive storytelling, where you shape an elusive ending, unseen even for a moment, fueling curiosity and the desire to see it through to completion. MADiSON will surprise players, as it did me, on every front: technical, graphical, auditory, and narrative. Personally, I highly recommend it to those seeking a mature, contemplative, and unsettling psychological horror experience, one that delivers a uniquely intense and memorable journey. It is not a game for those wanting frantic action or a straightforward plot, but for those willing to lose themselves in a visual and auditory nightmare that lingers long after the screen goes dark. Months or even years later, certain scenes, atmospheres, and images from the game will remain vividly etched in your memory and heart. If genuine terror is what you seek, MADiSON delivers it without compromise.”

“Imagine MADiSON akin to liking a nice picture that's out of focus: there's still a special attribute for genre fans to appreciate, but others will be put-off by the inconsistent craftsmanship.”

“Undoubtedly dark and creepy, the survival horror of MADiSON can grab you but isn't perfect by any means”

“I really liked MADiSON. Despite some frustrations with the lighting and certain portions of the game, this one is very well done. The story that we discover through newspaper clippings, audio cassettes or flashbacks is captivating. For my part, I wanted to continue to know the rest of the story even if I had been stuck at the same point for an hour. The puzzles generated with each new game force you to understand the solution well especially if you want to redo the game. If the developers fix the technical problems and the one big bug on PlayStation, MADiSON will be a must in terms of psychological horror. My rating did not take this last issue into consideration.”

“Maybe you'll find something to like if you've never played a horror game like this before, but for anyone well-versed in the genre, the ground MADiSON covers is very well-worn.”

“Although MADiSON is a good proposal that ends up drowned by its flaws, it is not a horror game that you should avoid either, since it has moments that are very worthwhile.”

“MADiSON is a genuinely terrifying psychological horror game and does its job very well, making it stand out in the genre on Nintendo's hybrid platform. Unfortunately, this is dragged down by the poor inventory system and unclear puzzle direction, causing far too much backtracking. Aside from these gripes, MADiSON expertly uses every tool at its disposal to unsettle you and create a horrifying experience I am keen to return to again.”

“MADiSON has an oppressive atmosphere and ingenious puzzles that keep the player in tension from start to finish. However, the Bloodious Games game abuses jumpscares and has technical problems that weigh down the experience.”
