How this score was computed
The VGC Score is a weighted blend on a press-comparable 0-100 quality scale. Steam approval rates are first calibrated (95% positive on Steam ≈ 89.5 quality, since Steam approval skews high). Press and tracked creator reviews each count ~2x a player review and share one cap against player evidence (creator buy/skip calls pool into an approval rate, calibrated like Steam approval); all-time sentiment is capped and halved (it's context, not verdict); reviews of the current build carry the most weight when a fresh patch anchors the window; and a 'typical game' prior keeps small samples from pegging the scale. Because press reviews and Metacritic user aggregates describe the launch build, their weight decays as the game ages (3-year half-life after a 1-year grace). That's how a game that launched rough can outgrow its old reception once updates win players over. Reviews under 2h playtime (the refund window), non-Steam activations, and free copies are downweighted.
| Component | Positive | Quality (0-100) | Weight (pseudo-reviews) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Press reviews (OpenCritic) | – | 82 | 20 |
| All-time Steam reviews | 64% | 63 | 1000 |
| Metacritic user ratings | – | 62 | 16 |
| Post-patch Steam reviews (trust-weighted) | 27% | 35 | 293 |
| Calibration prior (typical game) | – | 72 | 50 |

“Dragon Ball Gekishin Squadra turns a complex genre like the MOBA into an accessible and entertaining experience without losing depth in the process, while also paying tribute to Akira Toriyama’s work. Although it features a limited starting roster, few game modes, and monetization that restricts access to key content, this may very well be one of the series’ best purely online games.”

“DRAGON BALL GEKISHIN SQUADRA is a fun and addictive free-to-play 4v4 team battle game that combines the rich history of Dragon Ball with MOBA elements. Players can take advantage of a respectable roster of characters from across the Dragon Ball universe to battle it out online, and there are also plenty of features that let friends play each other with a variety of options and features at their disposal. Despite some of the roster omissions at launch, there's a solid foundation for a game that could keep Dragon Ball fans entertained for years to come.”

“Dragon Ball Genkishin Squadra, from developer Ganbarion and Bandai Namco Games, is a surprisingly solid MOBA game. It takes the Dragon Ball universe and merges it beautifully within the MOBA genre without losing the essence of the IP.”

“Dragon Ball: Gekishin Squadra is a very fun title that delivers surprisingly solid gameplay for a debut in a completely new genre. As a living organism, only the future will tell how it will perform, but it's a fact that if you're looking for a deep multiplayer title that's easy to get started with, Gekishin Squadra delivers that.”

“The end result is that Dragon Ball: Gekishin Squadra may be addicting, making its apparently fast matches soon become hours spent in getting some more victories, but, as a game as a service, a good chunk of the experience will depend on managing it well on the long run.”

“Dragon Ball Gekishin Squadra is Bandai Namco’s answer to the stagnation of the MOBA genre, a title that forgoes the extreme complexity typical of League of Legends and Dota 2 in favor of a more immediate, dynamic, and accessible approach.”

“At its core, it is a mobile game, but it works just as well as a console or PC game and having crossplay and cross progression between all the relevant devices opens it up to many more players worldwide. Dragon Ball fans have no excuse to not try this free-to-play game featuring their favourite Z Warriors. The game is easy to play and tough to master, but its addictive and competitive gameplay will keep players coming back for more. Whether you’re at home or on the go, Dragon Ball: Gekishin Squadra will have you ready for battle!”

“Dragon Ball: Gekishin Squadra is a great free-to-play experience especially for Dragon Ball fans, but even those that are not followers of Goku will find quite an enjoyable multiplayer alternative. The game is pretty simple, but it capitalizes on its core strengths: fun gameplay, good customization, very solid character design and a ton of potential for further character releases.”

“Dragon Ball Gekishin Squadra does not reinvent the wheel. Instead, incorporates all the engaging elements of other MOBAs on the market and delivers a highly entertaining experience with substantial challenge. It is not League of Legends with skins of Akira Toriyama's characters. It is a video game that provides all the necessary elements to offer enjoyable matches for every fan of this franchise.”

“Dragon Ball Gekishin Squadra is a compact and accessible MOBA, very enjoyable once you grasp the mechanics of this specific subgenre (and especially when playing with friends!), but characterized by simplifications that at some point could limit the experience. Being a free-to-play title, and one that is thankfully free of pay-to-win dynamics or overly aggressive monetization systems, the good news is that nothing will stop you from trying it out and getting a sense of what Ganbarion is attempting with this game, which is still only at the very beginning of a potentially long journey full of new characters and content.”
