How this score was computed
The VGC Score is a weighted blend on a press-comparable 0-100 quality scale. Steam approval rates are first calibrated (95% positive on Steam ≈ 89.5 quality, since Steam approval skews high). Press and tracked creator reviews each count ~2x a player review and share one cap against player evidence (creator buy/skip calls pool into an approval rate, calibrated like Steam approval); all-time sentiment is capped and halved (it's context, not verdict); reviews of the current build carry the most weight when a fresh patch anchors the window; and a 'typical game' prior keeps small samples from pegging the scale. Because press reviews and Metacritic user aggregates describe the launch build, their weight decays as the game ages (3-year half-life after a 1-year grace). That's how a game that launched rough can outgrow its old reception once updates win players over. Reviews under 2h playtime (the refund window), non-Steam activations, and free copies are downweighted.

“With Halloween around the corner (and summerween not quite over), it’s the perfect time to dive into the cozy, spooky, life-sim Moonlight Peaks and let your farming expertise take over.”

“Moonlight Peaks may not reinvent the cosy life sim genre, but it doesn’t need to. It’s a cosy life simulator full of personality, wrapped in a gorgeous supernatural setting that makes familiar mechanics feel fresh again. While it doesn’t excel the genre forward in any major way, its charming world, relaxing gameplay and lovable cast make it a thoroughly enjoyable adventure.”

“Moonlight Peaks is a perfect blend of the calm and serene nature of cozy games and a gothic aesthetic that is sure to capture the attention of fans of the genre, especially thanks to the wealth of content available right from launch, which promises hours of gameplay and a variety of interesting mechanics. However, the game has its shortcomings in its plot development; although the story is a central element of the game, it rarely offers interesting dialogue or narrative moments.”

“Moonlight Peaks is a charming and addictive farming simulator that successfully blends cozy gameplay with a delightful supernatural setting, memorable characters, enjoyable side activities, and a genuinely useful magic system. Its slow and somewhat confusing opening, longer loading times, and a few minor design frustrations hold it back slightly, but the game remains an easy recommendation for fans of spooky and relaxing life sims.”

“Moonlight Peaks is a worthy addition to the growing library of cozy games on Nintendo's latest hybrid, thanks to solid mechanics, a satisfying gameplay loop, dozens of hours of content, and a clever supernatural twist. It's not the best of the best, due to some pacing and grinding issues, but it's worth your time and energy, particularly if you enjoy games like Story of Seasons and Wylde Flowers.”

“Most of Moonlight Peaks' problems are only problems if you need to find some. It is inventive enough on its own to be surprising, and makes smart use of genre conventions elsewhere. For anyone who wants to distill it into a simple description, Moonlight Peaks could sit easily among Stardew Valley, Fae Farm and Animal Crossing in the pantheon of life sims.”

“In an eShop swimming with pretty weak tea Stardew Valley clones, Moonlight Peaks manages to be much more than merely a goth version of a farm sim.”

“Moonlight Peaks takes the familiar cozy farming sim formula and elevates it with a charming supernatural setting, deep progression systems, and an impressive amount of content available from launch.”

“Growing bizarre crops, raising spooky animals, and unlocking magical abilities through your wand keep the gameplay loop engaging, while the cute art style and surprisingly mature themes give the world extra personality. Slow dialogue, frequent cutscenes, and excessive loading screens hurt the pacing, but I still found myself constantly saying "just one more task" and playing for another hour, a great sign for any farming game.”

“Moonlight Peaks is a life sim with a unique backdrop and a keen awareness of what makes these types of games appealing. The gothic vibes add freshness to a genre filled with replicas, and the transformations and spells, while not perfect, make for a pleasant complement. There's plenty to do on your monstrous homestead and a charming collection of neighbors into whose lives you can insert yourself, however much you choose. It's worth noting that stamina and mana meters can feel a bit restrictive, especially early on, and the purple tinged nights of the spring and summer seasons can grow tiresome. All in all, though, Moonlight Peaks is a delightful cozy experience that is built for fans of the genre and welcoming enough to newcomers as well.”

“It takes a while to get to the core of what makes Moonlight Peaks a viable alternative to your life sim of choice, so be prepared for a slow start if you're well-versed in the genre. But if you want a relaxed life sim experience full of chilled-out, yet compelling things to do in a charmingly supernatural environment, it is full of rewards.”
