How this score was computed

The VGC Score is a weighted blend on a press-comparable 0-100 quality scale. Steam approval rates are first calibrated (95% positive on Steam ≈ 89.5 quality, since Steam approval skews high). Press and tracked creator reviews each count ~2x a player review and share one cap against player evidence (creator buy/skip calls pool into an approval rate, calibrated like Steam approval); all-time sentiment is capped and halved (it's context, not verdict); reviews of the current build carry the most weight when a fresh patch anchors the window; and a 'typical game' prior keeps small samples from pegging the scale. Because press reviews and Metacritic user aggregates describe the launch build, their weight decays as the game ages (3-year half-life after a 1-year grace). That's how a game that launched rough can outgrow its old reception once updates win players over. Reviews under 2h playtime (the refund window), non-Steam activations, and free copies are downweighted.

Another Resident Evil: Revelations port suffers from the laziness of developers, which translates into outdated graphics and the lack of worthwhile innovations (original game was released 5 years ago). On the other hand, you should buy this game if you love Resident Evil series and have not played through earlier versions of Revelations.

A truly impressive achievement, and the definitive 'mature' title on the 3DS. With production values worthy of a home console release, a significant volume of content, a blend of the series' different game styles and a subtly evolved control system, this title feels like a tribute to and progression of the franchise. There are some downsides though, including spikes in difficulty and drops in frame rate that are occasionally jarring in contrast to the rest of the title.

While Revelation's campaign is a fresh take on familiar tropes, its biggest surprise is Raid Mode, a madcap remixing of elements from the main campaign.

The 3DS origins are apparent on more than the graphical side, as the episodic nature coupled with the flashback jumps and multiple characters weighs heavy on Resident Evil: Revelations' story mode, breaking things up far too often, instead of letting things flow in what is otherwise a great survival horror setting. Overlooking the pitfalls, this is still a solid action game that fans of modernised third-person shooter Resi will get some mileage out of, and is multiplied tenfold when diving into Raid Mode.

If you’re desperate to complete your remastered Resident Evil collection, and have never played Resident Evil: Revelations before, the low price point is appealing. The game is certainly worth experiencing for Resident Evil fans, if only for the ridiculous and entertaining plot.

The PlayStation 4 version of Resident Evil: Revelations is the definitive version, but that doesn't carry as much weight as it would have a few years ago. We do think the campaign is still worth a playthrough, but with clunky controls, a graphical presentation that's showing its age, and an inferior raid mode, it's hard to recommend a voyage on this ship to anyone but newcomers.

Despite these few setbacks, however, Resident Evil: Revelations is an impressive game that's great fun. Though its contribution to the larger mythos is inconsequential, the game's story mode presents a good challenge and some genuinely hair-raising moments, and Raid Mode is fun, addictive, and rewarding.

Really, for those that have already played Revelations, there isn't any huge reason to run out and grab this again unless A. It's never been played before B. Love to collect or purchase anything with Resident Evil in the title, or C. Just simply want to replay it again on the new consoles. There's nothing really wrong with the game as far as coming over to the PS4, and mileage will vary on the repeated issues the game does have, like handheld design roots, scope, and limited animations.

On the controls front, however, Revelations is a much more pleasing sight, particularly without the newly released Circle Pad Pro peripheral.

It's also an important game for the 3DS in particular because it demonstrates the viability of a hardcore-oriented franchise as well as how powerful the 3D effect can be in creating a game environment.

The year 2012 just started and with Resident Evil: Revelations, we already have a candidate for the title 3DS game of the year. The graphics, sound and atmosphere are simply stunning and the gameplay will thrill the player for hours.

So I forget what happened. The important thing is, Resident Evil Revelations is a kickass action game. It follows in the footsteps of Resident Evil 5, ditching the plodding "survive against insurmountable odds" gameplay of the early games in the series and going straight to "make zombies explode into a pile of goo with a machine gun." This is the first game I've played on 3DS that really pushes the hardware - if you want a 3-D graphical showpiece for your new console, this will be the game you brag to your friends about.
