How this score was computed
The VGC Score is a weighted blend on a press-comparable 0-100 quality scale. Steam approval rates are first calibrated (95% positive on Steam ≈ 89.5 quality, since Steam approval skews high). Press and tracked creator reviews each count ~2x a player review and share one cap against player evidence (creator buy/skip calls pool into an approval rate, calibrated like Steam approval); all-time sentiment is capped and halved (it's context, not verdict); reviews of the current build carry the most weight when a fresh patch anchors the window; and a 'typical game' prior keeps small samples from pegging the scale. Because press reviews and Metacritic user aggregates describe the launch build, their weight decays as the game ages (3-year half-life after a 1-year grace). That's how a game that launched rough can outgrow its old reception once updates win players over. Reviews under 2h playtime (the refund window), non-Steam activations, and free copies are downweighted.

“All in all, Marvel Rivals is a massive success. Already at this stage the game is very enjoyable to play and after each completed match you want to click again to search for the next one. The full transparency of the developers and the presentation of plans for the future definitely fuels players with optimism, and may it stay that way forever.”

“A great action game, the idea of which has been on the surface for a long time, but it has only just now seen the light of day. Marvel fans will be happy, and fans of the genre can try something new and fun, especially if they are tired of Overwatch.”

“Marvel Rivals has shaken up the hero shooter genre with its near-perfect blend of visuals and gameplay, while scrapping many of the failed ideas pushed by its competition, leading to an overall great experience.”

“Marvel Rivals understands that "if it ain't broke, don't fix it". While it borrows a lot of ideas from its competitors, it stands out thanks to its excellent roster of characters and some innovative systems, like team abilities. Most importantly, it's incredibly fun and has great potential to expand with new heroes, game modes and more. Watch out, Overwatch... you have a new rival!”

“Marvel Rivals is a competitive third-person multiplayer hero-shooter that impresses with its initial roster of 33 characters, unique collaboration mechanics, and stunning visuals. Despite the lack of role-based queues, the game offers dynamic 6v6 matches and interactive environments. Its monetization is based on skins and battle passes, without impacting gameplay. With strong numbers on Steam and planned updates, the title shows potential to build a solid fanbase of both casual and competitive players.”

“One of the great things about Marvel Rivals that makes it stand out from other popular hero shooters like Overwatch is that the maps are extremely destructible. The breakable sections come back after a few minutes, but this can be used to your advantage by blocking players off from certain routes and separating teammates. The game devs seem to be listening to the player base and introducing characters and skins that the player base wants.”

“Marvel Rivals improves upon the multiplayer hero shooter formula to deliver an impressive package. A diverse cast of fun and recognizable characters, a distinct but recognizable aesthetic identity, fun and frenetic gameplay, an addicting competitive scene, and minimal predatory "gotcha" mechanics culminate in a gene-leading experience that prioritizes player fun while being completely free-to-play.”

“Marvel Rivals is a better hero shooter for remaining unbalanced, prioritizing fun over competitive play which allows it to shine.”

“Overwatch's twin brother with cool characters or a Chinese fake with unbalanced characters? Marvel Rivals raises different emotions for good reason. It plays well, but whether the title survives depends on how NetEase develops and cares for its shooter.”

“NetEase's spin on the hero battler is complex and moreish, but rarely much actual fun. Its biggest impact is a renewed appreciation for the rivals that do it better.”

“If you are looking for a casual or competitive hero shooter to play alone or with your friends, I recommend diving into Marvel Rivals; you will easily end up putting a few hundred hours into the game once you get a hang of the heroes and core gameplay loop.”
