How this score was computed
The VGC Score is a weighted blend on a press-comparable 0-100 quality scale. Steam approval rates are first calibrated (95% positive on Steam ≈ 89.5 quality, since Steam approval skews high). Press and tracked creator reviews each count ~2x a player review and share one cap against player evidence (creator buy/skip calls pool into an approval rate, calibrated like Steam approval); all-time sentiment is capped and halved (it's context, not verdict); reviews of the current build carry the most weight when a fresh patch anchors the window; and a 'typical game' prior keeps small samples from pegging the scale. Because press reviews and Metacritic user aggregates describe the launch build, their weight decays as the game ages (3-year half-life after a 1-year grace). That's how a game that launched rough can outgrow its old reception once updates win players over. Reviews under 2h playtime (the refund window), non-Steam activations, and free copies are downweighted.
| Component | Positive | Quality (0-100) | Weight (pseudo-reviews) |

| All-time Steam reviews | 88% | 82 | 1000 |
| Metacritic user ratings | – | 87 | 75 |
| Post-patch Steam reviews (trust-weighted) | 87% | 81 | 2293 |

“The Hundred Line: The Last Defense Academy is a must-play game for anyone who enjoys TRPG gameplay and compelling, often surprising sci-fi storytelling. Despite its dark themes and disturbing imagery, it's a total joy to play.”

“Starting out as a fun-filled entertainment experience, The Hundred Line: Last Defense Academy quickly degrades into a torment that lasts for literally hundreds of hours.”

“The Hundred Line, Last Defense Academy is an excellent tactical RPG that fully showcases the strengths of the creatives behind it. A well-written and compelling story, strong and strategic gameplay, attractive art style, and passionate VA work all come together to make for a comprehensive experience that you won't want to miss. It's an instant recommendation for fans of Uchikoshi and Kodaka's past work, but even if you're not so much into visual novels, consider adding this one to your library. The Switch has plenty of life in it yet, and Hundred Line stands as a strong reminder of why.”

“The Hundred Line -Last Defense Academy- is a wonderful experience where adventure and tactical RPG have been mixed in ideal proportions to deliver an engaging tale. The sheer number of endings ensures dedicated players will have their fill, while the quality of these endings is assured to satisfy those who have less time to spare and can’t afford to clear multiple routes.”

“There’s nothing else quite like The Hundred Line. It’s bold, bizarre, heartfelt, and filled with more ideas than most games twice its size. It respects your time by giving you meaningful choices, compelling characters, and deep gameplay systems. And most of all, it delivers on the potential that made me excited for it in the first place.”

“The Hundred Line -Last Defense Academy- is one of the most complete title on the market, having a great narrative, with top notch storytelling and character development, while also having a fun, albeit repetitive and not really well tuned strategy element, while also having a great and unique 2D artstyle. A game every Visual Novel fan should play once in their life.”

“Last Defense Academy has a lot of disparate parts working simultaneously, but it never creates any sort of disharmony. If anything, the visual novel, turn-based strategy, resource collection, and relationship management aspects complement and reinforce each other, creating a product far greater than the sum of its parts.”

“An unusual mix of a crazy storyline, interesting characters, and competent tactical strategy make for an engaging time”

“The Hundred Line: Last Defense Academy is one of the grandest pieces of literature ever written, and it has quality to its quantity. However, at times, the quality suffers as a result, and it could have benefited from a couple of additional editing rounds to weed out certain aspects. Some routes are terrible compared to the general quality of the game. At the end of the day, fans of the Danganronpa and Zero Escape franchises have a game that is on the must-buy list and will last a very long time. It comes strongly recommended to visual novel fans in general, and even to non-gamers who are into heavier pieces of literature.”

“Hundred Line has so many things going for it and none of them are half-assed. If you're a fan of tactical RPG's, you'll love it.”

“The Hundred Line Last Defense Academy does not shine in any of its aspects, offering gameplay models with bland and shallow mechanics. The characters are little more than literary archetypes, and yet the hours spent in the title's company flew by. All credit to the writing of Kazutaka Kodaka and Kotaro Uchikoshi, who succeeded in trapping me in a maelstrom of unanswered questions, mysterious killings, and plot twists. The events are dense and never boring, stimulating curiosity enough to want to consume the title in the blink of an eye and unravel its mysteries. If you are looking for a deep dating sim, as well as a tactical RPG, The Hundred Line Last Defense Academy will definitely not be for you. If, on the other hand, you want to immerse yourself in a whimsical visual novel with grotesque overtones, with elements plucked here and there from other genres, this title coming out on April 24 will definitely do the trick.”
