How this score was computed
The VGC Score is a weighted blend on a press-comparable 0-100 quality scale. Steam approval rates are first calibrated (95% positive on Steam ≈ 89.5 quality, since Steam approval skews high). Press and tracked creator reviews each count ~2x a player review and share one cap against player evidence (creator buy/skip calls pool into an approval rate, calibrated like Steam approval); all-time sentiment is capped and halved (it's context, not verdict); reviews of the current build carry the most weight when a fresh patch anchors the window; and a 'typical game' prior keeps small samples from pegging the scale. Because press reviews and Metacritic user aggregates describe the launch build, their weight decays as the game ages (3-year half-life after a 1-year grace). That's how a game that launched rough can outgrow its old reception once updates win players over. Reviews under 2h playtime (the refund window), non-Steam activations, and free copies are downweighted.

“Warriors: Abyss is a fast-paced and energetic game that doesn’t give you anything for free. The playtime is around four hours, but since we’re talking about the roguelike genre, you can enjoy it for much longer. However, the game’s visual style is a bit too over-the-top in terms of color, which ultimately detracts from the experience. But if you’re a fan of the Dynasty Warriors series and roguelikes, Warriors: Abyss won’t disappoint you!”

“Warriors: Abyss is a decent low-budget spinoff in the long-running hack 'n' slash series, but isn't particularly inspiring. There's tons of replayability, loads of unlockables, and a thrilling combat system that help to keep this one interesting for a while, but its paper-thin plot, repetitive gameplay, and poor visuals very much hold it back from being anything exceptional. We'd give this one a modest recommendation to fans of either roguelites, Musou games, or both, but with the caveat that you may want to wait to pick this one up on a deep sale sometime later on.”

“Warriors: Abyss surprised me in the best way. It took all the elements that made Dynasty Warriors great and combined them effortlessly into a fun roguelite experience. While each run is short and compact, the screen can get muddled with flashy effects, and there’s next to no story, Koei Tecmo has released a video game dripping with addictive gameplay and oodles of replayability. Even though I managed to tear myself away from Warriors: Abyss, I know I’ll be jumping back in for the customary “just one more go”.”

“Warriors Abyss is a title that tries something new from the classic musou, but you can tell from several factors that we are dealing with a product with a limited budget: the base price is in line with low-medium cost productions (we are talking about € 24.99 for the standard version), the graphics are not particularly well-finished (even the game menu is very basic) and as a last point the fact that it was announced and released on the same day, without any advertising campaign. The duration is not particularly long either. Even if you die and start over often, to complete a single run of the game, therefore overcoming all 4 areas, it takes about 3-4 hours. Clearly with such a large roster you will stay longer, completing it several times and with always different characters. Overlooking the plot and graphics, the gameplay of Warriors Abyss is fun and suitable for short gaming sessions. If you like musou and are looking for different experiences than usual, Warriors Abyss can meet your needs. If you're looking for the original musou experience, you can always play it safe by choosing Dynasty Warriors Origins, the latest chapter in the saga.”

“Warriors Abyss offers an amazingly engaging and addictive experience, showcasing a delightful blend of the Musou and Rogue-like genres. Fast-paced and chaotic combat, along with the variety of heroes present in the game and the ability to get help from other heroes, will create enjoyable moments for the player. There are also some issues, such as the repetitive and identical phases, problems related to bosses, and imbalance between the effects of emblems, which slightly mar the gaming experience. However, overall, the game can provide a lasting and beautiful experience that will entertain the player for a long time.”

“Omega Force’s attempt to enter the roguelite space with Warriors: Abyss is sadly quite underwhelming. I had some fun battling the waves of demons with the plethora of playable characters. But with some ugly graphics, no real randomization in levels/layout or bosses and limited gameplay features, this one is better left to the uber fans, even at its discounted price.”

“Warriors: Abyss wastes no time giving players a tangible story and also appears to lack depth in its opening moments, but that also doesn't matter. Instead, it focuses on translating the Musou experience into a tactile and fast-paced roguelike adventure and it excels at doing just that, rewarding players the more they put into it. Providing a thrilling and refreshing take on the Warriors series, it is not to be missed.”
