How this score was computed
The VGC Score is a weighted blend on a press-comparable 0-100 quality scale. Steam approval rates are first calibrated (95% positive on Steam ≈ 89.5 quality, since Steam approval skews high). Press and tracked creator reviews each count ~2x a player review and share one cap against player evidence (creator buy/skip calls pool into an approval rate, calibrated like Steam approval); all-time sentiment is capped and halved (it's context, not verdict); reviews of the current build carry the most weight when a fresh patch anchors the window; and a 'typical game' prior keeps small samples from pegging the scale. Because press reviews and Metacritic user aggregates describe the launch build, their weight decays as the game ages (3-year half-life after a 1-year grace). That's how a game that launched rough can outgrow its old reception once updates win players over. Reviews under 2h playtime (the refund window), non-Steam activations, and free copies are downweighted.
| Component | Positive | Quality (0-100) | Weight (pseudo-reviews) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Press reviews (OpenCritic) | – | 72 | 29 |
| All-time Steam reviews | 76% | 71 | 57 |
| Metacritic user ratings | – | – | 0 |
| Post-patch Steam reviews (trust-weighted) | 58% | 58 | 1 |
| Calibration prior (typical game) | – | 72 | 50 |

“With six different games included, Marvel MaXimum Collection is one of the best collections of retro Marvel games. While some of the titles aren’t among my favorites (Silver Surfer, I’m looking at you), the inclusion of X-Men: The Arcade Game, along with online co-op, makes this an easy recommendation.”

“Marvel MaXimum Collection is worth the price of entry for X-Men: The Arcade Game alone, but there's a lot to love about this bundle. While not every game included is an all-timer, there's a good enough mix here to make this a compelling collection of superhero brawlers, and the quality-of-life inclusions are excellent overall.”

“Marvel MaXimum Collection is a compilation that promises a nostalgic experience by bringing together some classic Marvel games in a single package, with the aim of reviving the spirit of retro arcade gaming. Whilst the games included in the collection reflect the design aesthetics of their era and earlier interpretations of the Marvel universe, it is evident that some titles fall short by today’s standards and that the player experience varies across the games.”

“On the other hand, if you are someone like me, who grew up with these games then you will enjoy this collection simply for nostalgia of it all. Reliving those memories of having friends spending the night, a large Pizza-Hut pizza, two-litter of soda and superhero video games. Yea, that’s what this package is best at, reliving some of the fun of those days; and for me it’s a blast.”

“Marvel MaXimum Collection gathers a sizable selection of 90s Marvel games into one package, offering both genuine arcade highlights and titles best remembered as curiosities. While the collection shines brightest with classics like X-Men: The Arcade Game, uneven quality and limited bonus content keep it from matching the very best retro compilations.”
