How this score was computed
The VGC Score is a weighted blend on a press-comparable 0-100 quality scale. Steam approval rates are first calibrated (95% positive on Steam ≈ 89.5 quality, since Steam approval skews high). Press and tracked creator reviews each count ~2x a player review and share one cap against player evidence (creator buy/skip calls pool into an approval rate, calibrated like Steam approval); all-time sentiment is capped and halved (it's context, not verdict); reviews of the current build carry the most weight when a fresh patch anchors the window; and a 'typical game' prior keeps small samples from pegging the scale. Because press reviews and Metacritic user aggregates describe the launch build, their weight decays as the game ages (3-year half-life after a 1-year grace). That's how a game that launched rough can outgrow its old reception once updates win players over. Reviews under 2h playtime (the refund window), non-Steam activations, and free copies are downweighted.

“What game adds to the LEGO video game formula is a few drops of proper modern gameplay mechanics.”

“In the end, LEGO Star Wars: The Force Awakens is a game that does its job well: it's fun, accessible, and true to the Star Wars universe. If you're a fan of the franchise or simply enjoy LEGO games, you'll definitely enjoy it. It introduces some interesting new features, but still follows the formula that has made the LEGO franchise a success over the years. If you liked the movie, you'll feel right at home here, and if you're not that into the style of the game, the long levels and simplicity of the gameplay might not be your thing.”

“So if you're looking for your fix of Star Wars, Lego Star Wars: The Force Awakens might keep you occupied. Unless you've played any game in the Lego series prior to this. Recommended for die-hard Star Wars fans and newcomers to Lego games only.”

“LEGO Star Wars: The Force Awakens is certainly worth strong consideration for Wii U gamers. It's the most fun we've had with a LEGO game in quite some time, as a matter of fact - smart design, some gameplay variety and a surprisingly impressive amount of content all weigh heavily in its favour. It strikes us as a game that had one of the more experienced and imaginative TT Games teams at the helm, and it charmed and entertained us over a number of hours.Though it's one of the most enjoyable LEGO games we've played recently, it loses a point or two from us simply due to performance issues on Wii U. It struggles to maintain a tolerable framerate in co-op, and even has some tough moments in single player. That's a pity, but we still recommend it overall. This one fails to fully complete its Jedi training on Wii U, ultimately, but it's still strong in the Force.”

“Older players will generally be interested in what The Force Awakens has to offer when it comes to humor. Just like the LEGO movie, the game takes the story already familiar from the movie and mostly follows it, but "twists" it just enough to make it funny, entertaining, and with a few mature jokes to appeal to the older audience.”

“The LEGO games aren’t interesting today. There are too many titles by TT Games. But Star Wars is a very strong brand, and you will want to discover this new content from The Force Awakens. The game has 200 characters, new shooter mechanics, spaceships battles and a lot of secrets. But it has no surprises. ”

“The series signature humour and gameplay fits perfectly with Star Wars, after all, it's what it was originally designed for! The new features add enough to keep this long-running franchise feeling fresh, the stages are short and fun, fitting perfectly to the handheld for pick up and put down gameplay. In conclusion: a great addition to TT Games' magnum opus.”

“LEGO Star Wars: The Force Awakens is quite possibly the best LEGO game yet, but it still has a smattering of old issues. Its compelling story cinematics, laugh out loud humour and perfectly balanced mix of conundrums and combat make it an absolute blast to play. However, it still suffers from the occasional AI hiccup and could do with the character abilities being refreshed.”

“Just when you thought LEGO games could not get any better, TT Games tries something new and simple to improve the basic game mechanics, delivering a fresh Star Wars game that fans from all ages will enjoy. It may have some silly moments that were supposed to be serious, but remember, this is a LEGO game and it's supposed to be funny. Just enjoy a ride that will take you to a galaxy far away.”

“While the story is a little linear and straightforward, the bonus missions make up for it with untold tales and new voicework. Like with seemingly every Lego game, if you're not into the source material, buyer beware. But if you're into Star Wars and want to relive the thrill of The Force Awakens, this is the best way to do so.”

“LEGO Star Wars: The Force Awakens is a much needed boost for the series. After Dimensions launched I thought all the standalone games would more or less be phoned in, but that is definitely not the case here. This has me excited for the next LEGO game, something I have not been able to say for years.”

“With level breakdowns that make the long console levels more manageable, strong use of 3D, and some creative additions, the 3DS version of The Force Awakens delivers in a way that just barely edges out its console brethren.”
