How this score was computed
The VGC Score is a weighted blend on a press-comparable 0-100 quality scale. Steam approval rates are first calibrated (95% positive on Steam ≈ 89.5 quality, since Steam approval skews high). Press and tracked creator reviews each count ~2x a player review and share one cap against player evidence (creator buy/skip calls pool into an approval rate, calibrated like Steam approval); all-time sentiment is capped and halved (it's context, not verdict); reviews of the current build carry the most weight when a fresh patch anchors the window; and a 'typical game' prior keeps small samples from pegging the scale. Because press reviews and Metacritic user aggregates describe the launch build, their weight decays as the game ages (3-year half-life after a 1-year grace). That's how a game that launched rough can outgrow its old reception once updates win players over. Reviews under 2h playtime (the refund window), non-Steam activations, and free copies are downweighted.

“World of Final Fantasy is probably the best Final Fantasy in the last few years with lots of gags, sometimes silly sense of humor, almost perfect role-playing system and careful treatment of favorite characters. Hunt elements with the local pokemons only adds freshness to the gameplay. The only thing that might confuse is a low level of difficulty. However, the sense of simplicity instantly disappears during fights with secret bosses. If you missed the World of Final Fantasy due to strange humor and art design or just finished Final Fantasy XV, it's time to change your mind and buy the game.”

“World of Final Fantasy pays homage to the series well and uses classic characters intelligently. The “cute” look may put off those who prefer more serious and “down-to-earth” games, but since it is a true Final Fantasy, one should not demand too much in terms of realism or a setting that is more similar to our world. It is a fantasy and that is how it should be.”

“It's a Final Fantasy straight out of the 90s and deserves the attention of every fan of the old-school games. World of Final Fantasy isn't a grand epic adventure, and its main narrative is probably a little too convoluted, but it uses its franchise's history to wonderful effect, blending iconic characters, a simple turn-based battle system, and a monster capturing mechanic that is sure to appeal to more than just Final Fantasy stalwarts to create a genuinely hilarious and enchanting RPG that might not warrant many replays, but fills a void that has been left abandoned in the series for too long.”

“Following on from I Am Setsuna earlier in the year, Square Enix has produced another RPG with traditional elements for the current generation, and it's once again found success. World of Final Fantasy offers a polished and pretty adventure through a lovingly made world, and even though its story is let down by some poor writing, the addictive process of capturing and training monsters is enough to keep you playing. All in all, this is a great little spin-off.”

But instead, it brings colorful environments, an enjoyable story, great combat mechanics and, most importantly, nostalgia at its best. This Square Enix game was made for the Final Fantasy fan who loves the series and its iconic characters. “In the end, World of Final Fantasy feels like an RPG aimed at children or people that are as experienced with RPGs. At the same time, there is enough here as far as customization goes to keep the veterans busy for a nice long time as well. It took me by surprise, and I think RPG fans will really enjoy this hybrid mix of Final Fantasy and Pokémon.”
