How this score was computed
The VGC Score is a weighted blend on a press-comparable 0-100 quality scale. Steam approval rates are first calibrated (95% positive on Steam ≈ 89.5 quality, since Steam approval skews high). Press and tracked creator reviews each count ~2x a player review and share one cap against player evidence (creator buy/skip calls pool into an approval rate, calibrated like Steam approval); all-time sentiment is capped and halved (it's context, not verdict); reviews of the current build carry the most weight when a fresh patch anchors the window; and a 'typical game' prior keeps small samples from pegging the scale. Because press reviews and Metacritic user aggregates describe the launch build, their weight decays as the game ages (3-year half-life after a 1-year grace). That's how a game that launched rough can outgrow its old reception once updates win players over. Reviews under 2h playtime (the refund window), non-Steam activations, and free copies are downweighted.

“Darksiders Genesis is a very beautiful game with a faded and essentially empty story with a treacherous Lucifer that looms somewhere in the background, crooked interface, useless skill tree, broken map, monotonous and boring gameplay and insufficient polishing before release. Fans of the original trilogy will be happy to meet with old friends, but the initial fuse is unlikely to last long.”

“Darksiders Genesis takes action to another level with its fast-paced combat system and amazing music. Unfortunately, it falls behind with unoriginal puzzles and lack of polish.”

“Despite of its camera angle, Genesis is a true Darksiders game and a good opportunity to try what it's like to be one of the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse. Well, at least two of them.”

“Darksiders Genesis is, for us, the best entry in the series in terms of its mix of satisfyingly meaty hack-and-slash action and huge levels filled with secrets, puzzles and platforming. With its fully co-op campaign, unlockable arena mode and Apocalyptic difficulty feeding into that addictive Creature Core grinding, there's an absolute ton here for fans of the series, and newcomers alike, to get stuck into. This Switch version may suffer some slight blurriness and FPS hiccups in portable mode but, if you can make peace with these problems, this is a highly entertaining action game at a very reasonable price.”

“I expected much less from Darksiders Genesis and I got a really pleasant surprise. What looked like a hack’n’slash, a weird version of Diablo, turned out just another Darksiders game, only isometric. Hell, I think it’s even better than Darksiders III. Good stuff!”

“Darksiders: Genesis is every bit a Darksiders game as the ones that came before it. The addition of Strife is employed in such a way that it feels natural, rather than forced, and showcases the developer’s ability to build upon the series’ lore instead of ret-conning any of it.”

“Airship Syndicate did a great job taking the best aspects of action RPGs and isometric action titles and put their fun and entertaining spin on it, topped off with a decent Gareth Coke-composed soundtrack that wades between tranquil acoustics to battle anthems with foreboding chants. That's more than enough to earn it a reputation for being this year's dark horse.”

“THQ has just declared open warfare on the likes of Blizzard, Runic Games, and the other ARPG big dogs.”

“Darksiders Genesis is a fun, lighter take on Darksiders, excelling in co-op and arcade-style action but falling short of Darksiders II’s depth or the trilogy’s narrative weight. It is less demanding than III’s punishing combat and more replayable than the original’s linearity, making it a solid but not standout game in the series. The co-op features are the main event and breathe some variety in a series that has been growing derivative with every entry.”

“Darksiders Genesis may be a new look for the series, but it doesn't sacrifice the glorious chaos fans have come to love. Gorgeous visuals, weighty combat, and a surprising amount of replayability make Darksiders Genesis something everyone can enjoy.”

“What may have been a solid experience a few years back feels too stale in 2020. Darksiders Genesis is completely competent in its own right, but it doesn't do enough to differentiate itself from previous iterations despite a change in perspective. Combat is a highlight and the Creature Core system provides some depth, however, they're about the only two features we can muster any enthusiasm for.”

“Despite using an isometric camera angle, Darksiders Genesis feels right at home and delivers the fast and fluid hack and slash experience that the previous games provided. the only problem with Darksiders Genesis is that some parts like platforming feel problematic and the puzzles are not as enjoyable as action sections.”
