How this score was computed
The VGC Score is a weighted blend on a press-comparable 0-100 quality scale. Steam approval rates are first calibrated (95% positive on Steam ≈ 89.5 quality, since Steam approval skews high). Press and tracked creator reviews each count ~2x a player review and share one cap against player evidence (creator buy/skip calls pool into an approval rate, calibrated like Steam approval); all-time sentiment is capped and halved (it's context, not verdict); reviews of the current build carry the most weight when a fresh patch anchors the window; and a 'typical game' prior keeps small samples from pegging the scale. Because press reviews and Metacritic user aggregates describe the launch build, their weight decays as the game ages (3-year half-life after a 1-year grace). That's how a game that launched rough can outgrow its old reception once updates win players over. Reviews under 2h playtime (the refund window), non-Steam activations, and free copies are downweighted.
| Component | Positive | Quality (0-100) | Weight (pseudo-reviews) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Press reviews (OpenCritic) | – | 82 | 13 |
| All-time Steam reviews | 89% | 83 | 1000 |
| Metacritic user ratings | – | 76 | 13 |
| Post-patch Steam reviews (trust-weighted) | 87% | 80 | 38 |
| Calibration prior (typical game) | – | 72 | 50 |

“Dicey Dungeons is exactly the kind of game I could see myself playing for thirty minutes or so at a time. For being built entirely on RNG, it has some pretty interesting gameplay mechanics and the character variety on top of that just adds to the fun.”

“Terry Cavanaugh has done it again with Dicey Dungeons; this is easily one of the best roguelike titles you can currently purchase for the Switch. Loads of gameplay variety, fantastic music, a high skill ceiling and friendly visuals make this a thoroughly gripping and fun experience you won't want to miss out on. If you like roguelikes or card games, we'd highly recommend you pick this up as soon as you can, and even if you don't, we'd still encourage you to check it out regardless.”

“OK, so perhaps at this point the concept of a deck-building strategy roguelike has been played out a bit… but what if you added an additional layer of RNG madness with dice just to spice things up?”

“Dicey Dungeons is an amazing game that I'd almost call a roguelike game for people who don't like roguelikes. You do have to like turn-based combat, though. And dice.”

“Dicey Dungeons is an occasionally frustrating but nevertheless entertaining roguelike that mixes deck building with unpredictable dice rolls.”

“Dicey Dungeons is a fast-paced, easy to learn and most of all very enjoyable roguelite that managed to squeeze every drop of blood from an extremely simple idea.”

“Dicey Dungeons has shown me one thing above all: when the Goddess of Fortune favors me, the game works wonderfully. Yet lurking beneath the surface is always a deeply biting flaw that can spring forth at the wrong moment and chew up all the fun.”

“If there are any fans of dice rolls out there, rejoice! This game is for YOU.”

“Under its goofy premise, Terry Cavanagh's new production is a very well designed title. Really strategic and offering a huge display of combinations, Dicey Dungeons can also be a little frustrating as we can win or lose on a roll of a dice.”

“Endearing, compulsive, and just weird enough to want to keep exploring.”

“Dicey Dungeons is a dice-based strategy game. Everything inside the game is connected by dice, which contributes a lot to the solid and interesting combat experience. However, as the time goes on, you will lose your mood to enjoy it within a couple of hours, since it doesn't have too much content to play.”
