How this score was computed
The VGC Score is a weighted blend on a press-comparable 0-100 quality scale. Steam approval rates are first calibrated (95% positive on Steam ≈ 89.5 quality, since Steam approval skews high). Press and tracked creator reviews each count ~2x a player review and share one cap against player evidence (creator buy/skip calls pool into an approval rate, calibrated like Steam approval); all-time sentiment is capped and halved (it's context, not verdict); reviews of the current build carry the most weight when a fresh patch anchors the window; and a 'typical game' prior keeps small samples from pegging the scale. Because press reviews and Metacritic user aggregates describe the launch build, their weight decays as the game ages (3-year half-life after a 1-year grace). That's how a game that launched rough can outgrow its old reception once updates win players over. Reviews under 2h playtime (the refund window), non-Steam activations, and free copies are downweighted.

“VOEZ is a beautiful rhythm game with a generous supply of songs and gorgeous artwork that makes you want to keep going back for more. The rhythm gameplay feels accurate and fits the songs nicely for the most part, particularly in harder difficulties, with a nicely designed learning curve to allow players to get into the swing of things.”

“Whilst not a lot happens on-screen during tracks, the presentation is still lovely and vibrant, with colours and panels changing and shifting in time with the great range of music on offer. Although VOEZ doesn't really lend itself well to long periods of play, many of the tracks are short enough that it can be played in quick bursts now and then, perhaps unlocking the generic light-hearted visual novel in the process. Comfort is a point of contention, but the concept is so incredibly simple and appealing that just about anybody will be able to pick up and enjoy tapping away to these beats. A welcome addition to the genre and the Switch library.”

“Between bouts of Zelda, Voez has become a welcome musical break from Hyrule. The music charts in the game are very well designed leading to frantic, musical fun. Voez is a wonderful option for those desiring some rhythm action on the Switch.”

“VOEZ plays wonderfully on Nintendo Switch, and offers a premium package where the mobile version required you to buy many songs separately. That might work for you though, if you wanted to keep the cost of entry low. The only slight disappointment with this version, is that you can't play it in docked mode. Sure, that would have been difficult to do given that it's a touch-based game, but it would have been nice to have had a version running that used the right Joycon as a Wiimote. It's not the end of the day though, and if you're a fan of rhythm action games VOEZ is one well worth checking out for its beauty, innovation, and wealth of content for that low price.”

“Voez makes its arrival on the Nintendo Switch as a rhythm game that features a wide selection of songs and making full use of the console's touchscreen. Those unaccustomed to this kind of games may find it repetitive and it can cause some physical discomfort after long periods of use, which along with a lack of a real progression system makes this a game aimed mostly at fans of the rhythm and music genre.”

“No matter what it says about the potential usage for the Switch’s touchscreen this is a beautifully presented and enjoyably novel rhythm action game.”

“Voez is a "no bells or whistles" style rhythm game with a hell of a soundtrack and some very unique execution. As the first portable mode only title on the Switch it might have you apprehensive, but you shouldn't be too wary; it's a solid title from a studio that knows what they're doing in the genre.”

“As music rhythm games go, VOEZ is one of the best I’ve ever played, up there with the likes of Parappa The Rapper, Hatsune Miku Project DIVA X and Gitaroo Man.”

“One of those unexpected surprises among the few first Nintendo Switch games. It may not be for everyone, but if you enjoy rhythm games, you'll enjoy this one.”

“Voez is a diamond in the rough, at least as far as the Nintendo Switch eShop is concerned. The system's launch went from zero (or just Zelda) to hero in seconds flat, and as long as you're okay with a lack of a TV mode, Voez is a worthy pickup.”

“Its beautiful minimalistic design, more than 100 playable songs and an interesting story mode make VOEZ a great music game. Nevertheless, the Switch version isn´t playable on TV or tabletop modes, which makes no difference compared to iOS or Android release. ”

“A surprisingly strong contender in the Nintendo Switch launch library, VOEZ is well worth its modest asking price for rhythm fans who need to scratch that IIDX itch.”
