How this score was computed
The VGC Score is a weighted blend on a press-comparable 0-100 quality scale. Steam approval rates are first calibrated (95% positive on Steam ≈ 89.5 quality, since Steam approval skews high). Press and tracked creator reviews each count ~2x a player review and share one cap against player evidence (creator buy/skip calls pool into an approval rate, calibrated like Steam approval); all-time sentiment is capped and halved (it's context, not verdict); reviews of the current build carry the most weight when a fresh patch anchors the window; and a 'typical game' prior keeps small samples from pegging the scale. Because press reviews and Metacritic user aggregates describe the launch build, their weight decays as the game ages (3-year half-life after a 1-year grace). That's how a game that launched rough can outgrow its old reception once updates win players over. Reviews under 2h playtime (the refund window), non-Steam activations, and free copies are downweighted.

“RiMS Racing is an absolutely unique affair, which will suit especially fans of racing simulators, who are not afraid of new challenges. Realistic physics combining repair and tuning of your machine has succeeded to the first place, and if it weren't for a few unnecessary fouls, I could describe RiMS Racing as a really great game. However, the aforementioned flaws bring the title to its knees, especially the AI and the ever-repetitive circuits. If you happen to be a newcomer to the genre and would like to get RiMS Racing, prepare yourself for long hours of nerves and the fact that the game won't give you anything for free. It makes every success you achieve all the more delicious. For me, seven out of ten.”

“RiMS Racing is a super complex motorcycle sim that provides players with a ton of depth in terms of tinkering, tuning and customising. However, once on the track, this Switch port is let down badly by performance issues that make it a frustrating, messy experience. There's definitely a market for this type of in-depth motorbike action on Nintendo's console but, in this state, it's very hard to recommend diving into this particular offering.”

“RiMS Racing biggest misstep is trying to create a bridge between very different types of players. Some mini games are unnecessary, and the telemetry system lacks what sims racers want. But once you get that out of the way, even if barebones in content, is by far one of the best motorcycle sims out there.”

“RiMS Racing has earned its place as one of the most immersive motorcycle racing games to date, with the PlayStation 5 taking this a step further thanks to the DualSense controller. While there aren’t many bikes to choose from, the unmatched level of customization and fleshed out Career Mode will give you plenty of enjoyable hours to test and upgrade your bike.”

“The graphical downgrade on the Switch casts a pale shadow on what is otherwise a solid yet difficult game with occasional obtuse vehicle handling. If you are a bike-racing enthusiast and don't mind a challenge in its single race, career or online play modes, this game is for you. Casual bikers (myself included) need not apply.”

“This isn't just about choosing bikes and winning races, but about managing a plethora of parameters and variables with regards to the mechanical aspects of the motorbike in a way that is certain to catch the hearts of motorcycling fans, while also pushing away those looking for something simpler. The only downside to this Nintendo Switch version is its visibly dated looks, which stand out in a negative way.”

“A good first lap for a racing series debut, RiMS Racing is a game designed for bikers. It adds an element of maintenance and customisation to the racing formula which makes for a compelling career experience. With great action on track and a unique system off it, RiMS is certainly worth your time but has room for improvement in a sequel.”

“RiMS Racing can satisfy those who are looking for a simulation type of racing game and those who are just looking for some fun motor racing title. There are some technical issues including annoying frame drops here and there that need to be patched to make this a more wholesome offering.”
