How this score was computed
The VGC Score is a weighted blend on a press-comparable 0-100 quality scale. Steam approval rates are first calibrated (95% positive on Steam ≈ 89.5 quality, since Steam approval skews high). Press and tracked creator reviews each count ~2x a player review and share one cap against player evidence (creator buy/skip calls pool into an approval rate, calibrated like Steam approval); all-time sentiment is capped and halved (it's context, not verdict); reviews of the current build carry the most weight when a fresh patch anchors the window; and a 'typical game' prior keeps small samples from pegging the scale. Because press reviews and Metacritic user aggregates describe the launch build, their weight decays as the game ages (3-year half-life after a 1-year grace). That's how a game that launched rough can outgrow its old reception once updates win players over. Reviews under 2h playtime (the refund window), non-Steam activations, and free copies are downweighted.
| Component | Positive | Quality (0-100) | Weight (pseudo-reviews) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Press reviews (Metacritic) | – | 77 | 6 |
| All-time Steam reviews | 90% | 84 | 1000 |
| Metacritic user ratings | – | 79 | 12 |
| Post-patch Steam reviews (trust-weighted) | 62% | 61 | 3 |
| Calibration prior (typical game) | – | 72 | 50 |

“Sanctum 2 at the very least improves on every aspect of its clunky predecessor, offering smoother and more enjoyable gameplay and living up to the great promise offered by the premise. ”

“Sanctum 2 does a good job of improving on the first game. There are new maps, characters, a fresh perk and upgrade system, enemies; almost everything is new.”

“A shooter and a tower defense games fit perfectly together. Sanctum 2 with its sci-fi setting creates great atmosphere. Damn its mediocre graphics. It has its easygoing gameplay, which is great. [Issue#231]”

“Sanctum 2 brings improved balance between it’s FPS and Tower Defense mechanics, making it one of the most engaging and intensive additions to this hybrid genre.”

“It looks like Sanctum and it sounds like Sanctum, but it plays totally differently. While the more devoted fans of the first game might take issue with a lot of the changes, and while it doesn't match up to that game's heights, there's still a lot to enjoy in Sanctum 2.”

“The second entry in the Sanctum series continues exploring the odd mix of tower defense and first person shooter. The mechanics in the sequel are solid if a bit too simple to invite a deeper engagement. Still as a co-op game it excels in places that few games do.”

“Unlike its previous instalment this shooter and tower defense game mix is focusing on a player and their character building. Therefore your hands are tied from the tower building perspective, and the title is counting on its cooperative multiplayer game. On the other hand, if you've never played the original instalment or you are not afraid of the changes, feel free to venture into Sanctum 2.”

“Sanctum 2 may not be the most original tower-defense game or even the one with the most depth. But it doesn't change the fact planet LOEK III is still a very appealing planet to visit. Although you're going to have to wield an arsenal of big guns to survive the stronger growing alien hordes that want you dead as soon as possible.”
