How this score was computed

The VGC Score is a weighted blend on a press-comparable 0-100 quality scale. Steam approval rates are first calibrated (95% positive on Steam ≈ 89.5 quality, since Steam approval skews high). Press and tracked creator reviews each count ~2x a player review and share one cap against player evidence (creator buy/skip calls pool into an approval rate, calibrated like Steam approval); all-time sentiment is capped and halved (it's context, not verdict); reviews of the current build carry the most weight when a fresh patch anchors the window; and a 'typical game' prior keeps small samples from pegging the scale. Because press reviews and Metacritic user aggregates describe the launch build, their weight decays as the game ages (3-year half-life after a 1-year grace). That's how a game that launched rough can outgrow its old reception once updates win players over. Reviews under 2h playtime (the refund window), non-Steam activations, and free copies are downweighted.

Ninja Gaiden: Ragebound is very exciting and addictive with its fast-paced action and challenging gameplay. I really missed a fun action game with a cool retro pixel-art style like this.

With a brisk seven- to eight-hour runtime, Ninja Gaiden: Ragebound doesn’t overstay its welcome. If anything, I wish it were longer. Some longtime fans may find the more balanced difficulty a bit tame, but for most, this will feel like the Goldilocks zone between old-school punishment and modern approachability. Whether you’re here for the tight mechanics, the sharp pixel art, or the emotional pull of a cursed ninja buddy-cop duo, Ragebound delivers. It’s the most I’ve enjoyed a Ninja Gaiden game in years, and serves as a reminder of why this series still matters.

Dear reader, this game is a love letter presented by The Game Kitchen to the entire audience of the Ninja Gaiden series, as Ninja Gaiden: Ragebound has restored the spirit of the series after a long absence and provided a distinctive experience that respects its ancient history. Despite the simplicity of the story, the writing style and the connection with the world of Ninja Gaiden were successful, while the gameplay came across as diverse and full of challenges that maintain the fun of combat and push you to continue. Boss encounters are among the most beautiful aspects of the game, with innovative designs that make every battle a different experience. The artistic direction in the Pixel Art style added a beautiful touch that combines the nostalgia of the past with the development of the present, making the game look like a vibrant painting. Despite the limitations of the shop and some small details, the game succeeded in providing a return worthy of the Ninja Gaiden name and opens the door for a new generation of fans.

NINJA GAIDEN: Ragebound offers a compact campaign, where visual diversity and intense dynamics are hidden behind apparent simplicity. The game itself is perceived as an almost flawless prologue to NINJA GAIDEN 4.

The Game Kitchen shines with Ninja Gaiden: Ragebound, a challenging 2D platform adventure that combines the classic with the modern, keeping the spirit of the series intact. It knows how to combine the classic with the modern and bring the spirit of a series whose origins date back to the 1980s into 2025. The speed and vertigo of the gameplay, emphasized by a wonderful soundtrack, is a clear invitation to jump and swing your sword, as well as enjoy an original story.

The main story’s baseline difficulty is quite measured, but each stage offers optional challenges for you to complete, say, slay a certain number of spectral samurai, or avoid every pit of spikes along the way.

NINJA GAIDEN: Ragebound embraces its essence and delivers a quality experience beyond expectations, with extremely well-crafted pixel art and a heavy, nostalgic soundtrack. The game captures the essence of the NINJA GAIDEN series for a new generation. Ragebound is simple in its premise and reminds us that, ultimately, video games are about having fun.

Ninja Gaiden: Ragebound is a very difficult and perfectly balanced 2D pixel-art platformer. If you love action platformers and high difficulty is what you’re looking for, Ragebound is a great choice. If you’re mainly looking for a relaxing gaming experience, though, you’re better off staying away. You’ll spend plenty of time practicing and dying over and over again against every boss. It’s not for the impatient. It often wears me out, and I have to take breaks lasting several days. Ragebound is an intense game that offers a great sense of satisfaction when you defeat any boss.

Ninja Gaiden: Ragebound is the kind of game that makes you want improve. Chaining death with balletic grace feels so liberating that you don't want to be interrupted in your flow. The way it implements all of its mechanics, along with increasingly interesting, beautiful, and ever-taut stage design, is a treat, and a truly linear arcade-style DLC would be a blessing should one ever transpire. While some Talismans can be purchased to actually make the game harder, the base challenge will certainly test you. It's a real shame about that frame-rate judder, but in terms of seductive 2D Ninja action, it lands squarely on catlike feet. SHINOBI: Art of Vengeance, you have been challenged to a duel.

There is a lot of heart, here, and I have to reward not only the effort and passion, but the totality of the amazing experience. Ninja Gaiden: Ragebound takes a slight step away from the original trilogy, but it’s a stealthy ninja step in the perfect direction.
