How this score was computed
The VGC Score is a weighted blend on a press-comparable 0-100 quality scale. Steam approval rates are first calibrated (95% positive on Steam ≈ 89.5 quality, since Steam approval skews high). Press and tracked creator reviews each count ~2x a player review and share one cap against player evidence (creator buy/skip calls pool into an approval rate, calibrated like Steam approval); all-time sentiment is capped and halved (it's context, not verdict); reviews of the current build carry the most weight when a fresh patch anchors the window; and a 'typical game' prior keeps small samples from pegging the scale. Because press reviews and Metacritic user aggregates describe the launch build, their weight decays as the game ages (3-year half-life after a 1-year grace). That's how a game that launched rough can outgrow its old reception once updates win players over. Reviews under 2h playtime (the refund window), non-Steam activations, and free copies are downweighted.

“The word “slop” has recently been overused to the point of death, and that’s a shame, because I’d very much like to call Double Dragon Revive slop. It baffles me how you can put out something this ugly and unenjoyable without attaching an apology to it instead of a price tag, but that's videogames for you.”

“Double Dragon Revive is a lazy sequel. Although the developers tried to adhere to the spirit of the original, they failed in the task of updating the gameplay to modern standards, drowning in goofy mechanics, unoriginality, and boredom.”

“Double Dragon Revive is the sort of game that's just damningly mediocre. It doesn't fumble the ball too hard in any significant way, but neither does it really excel at offering a fun and engaging beat 'em up. Interesting gameplay ideas are held back by uneven execution, and the uninspired graphical style kind of takes some getting used to.This will have its fans, and it's worth purchasing on a deep sale someday, but it's definitely nowhere close to the list of games I'd recommend to someone wanting to expand their beat-'em-up collection. Perhaps Billy and Jimmy will wow us with their inevitable next outing, but this one is just 'alright'.”

“In summary, Double Dragon Revive positions itself as one of the strongest candidates for the worst recent installment in the series. While it avoids the absolute depths plumbed by Rosetta Stone and Double Dragon IV, it clearly falls short of the modern standards set by Neon and Gaiden. The game delivers the essential elements of the beat 'em up genre: iconic characters, environmental interactivity, and an arcade rhythm in co-op, making it merely acceptable for those seeking a quick, nostalgic gaming escape, particularly when shared. Barely scraping by with a passing grade, it is suitable solely for the incurable nostalgics. It can only observe with melancholy distance the titles that surpass it in every aspect, even with the presence of the famous Lee brothers and co., such as River City Girls 2 and its dedicated downloadable content, without even daring to disturb the recently released video game miracle that answers to the name of Absolum.”

“If you're looking for detailed graphics, well-modeled characters, and impeccable textures, Double Dragon Revive might not be the right game for you. But if visuals aren't a problem and what you're looking for is arcade fun, solid gameplay, and that nostalgic arcade feel, then the journey will certainly be worth it!”

“Double Dragon Revive punches its way back into the spotlight with smooth performance, deep combat, and a healthy dose of nostalgia. It’s a fun, interactive, and well-built brawler that honours its roots while embracing modern polish, even if its story and structure play it safe.”

“Without reinventing the wheel, Double Dragon Revive is yet another attempt to revive classic beat 'em ups, and even though it's relatively simpler than some competitors in the genre, the game has its fair share of fun.”

“Double Dragon Revive attempts to bring the franchise back into the spotlight, but fails miserably”

“Double Dragon Revive is a love letter to the franchise, but one that occasionally forgets to stamp it properly. It’s not bad game per say, there are flashes of brilliance where it all comes together, and for those moments, it feels like the return I hoped for. But just as often, it reminds you that sometimes, bringing back the past isn’t enough. If you grew up with the Lee brothers and just want to relive the glory days with a friend, you’ll probably have fun as long as they can come over your house. If you’re new to the series, though, this isn’t going to make you a believer.”

“Double Dragon Revive is a classic brought back to life, but that means many of the issues have returned as well.”

“The classic fighting game has been revived in a modern version, but it doesn't bring a more intense experience or significant improvements.”

“Double Dragon Revive brings back the iconic beat ’em up with energy but also with limitations. Its combat is fun and responsive, featuring distinct characters and challenging bosses, yet the overall polish feels lacking. The visuals are serviceable but dated, the story is merely functional, and the soundtrack fails to stand out. Occasional input delays and some design options hinder the experience. Still, for long-time fans, there’s enough nostalgia and heart to make it worth. Even if it falls short of true revival.”
