How this score was computed
The VGC Score is a weighted blend on a press-comparable 0-100 quality scale. Steam approval rates are first calibrated (95% positive on Steam ≈ 89.5 quality, since Steam approval skews high). Press and tracked creator reviews each count ~2x a player review and share one cap against player evidence (creator buy/skip calls pool into an approval rate, calibrated like Steam approval); all-time sentiment is capped and halved (it's context, not verdict); reviews of the current build carry the most weight when a fresh patch anchors the window; and a 'typical game' prior keeps small samples from pegging the scale. Because press reviews and Metacritic user aggregates describe the launch build, their weight decays as the game ages (3-year half-life after a 1-year grace). That's how a game that launched rough can outgrow its old reception once updates win players over. Reviews under 2h playtime (the refund window), non-Steam activations, and free copies are downweighted.

“This is definitely not a game to buy for its gameplay (which is repetitive and boring). If cute girls is all you want, then this may be a decent recommendation, but otherwise, definitely stay away.”

“It's sad that the gameplay is really weak. Perhaps in the next game developers will be able to offer a slightly more diverse story and sets of mini-games, but for now we have a very average shooter that exploits the same idea with sexy girls and anime cliches for six hours of playing time.”

“Gal*Gun 2 offers an on-rails shooter experience that gets very familiar and repetitive far too quickly, without ever really providing enough content to keep you hooked. The pure fantasy element of the scenarios at hand is certainly the selling point, but the gameplay that surrounds it isn't strong enough to justify a purchase. If you're a fan of the series' earlier titles, or if the art and plot appeal to your tastes, you'll likely get something from the game, but anyone looking for great gaming action will likely be pretty disappointed.”

“Easily one of the best motion controller based rail shooters out there. That's not saying much but it is a good game on its own merits and the hilarious presentation helps a lot too.”

“All in all, the game has its quirks and letdowns plus the sexual themes that could probably pique your interest or simply make you walk away. With a decent story to boot it up, it’s one of those dating games that felt a little more interesting especially that it has a full 3D world at which you can look around and a few things like books, pencils, balls or even statues that can be interacted to despite how useless they seem to be within the world. Definitely not the best story but it works.”

“Overall, Gal*Gun 2 just feels like a step back from its predecessor. Double Peace took the perverted premise of these games and utterly ran with it, creating a hilariously awkward game with some relatively strong shooting mechanics that didn’t overstay their welcome. Gal*Gun 2 feels like it removed the game’s heart in order to replace it with more shooting stages.”

“Sadly, Gal Gun 2 seems to be nothing but a watered-down version of Gal Gun.”

“Over the course of playing the game I will say I was impressed with the fact that even though it very obviously is targeted at a specific audience who’d probably buy it regardless underneath it all there’s a reasonably decent game. It may be a bit repetitive but then again most shooters are in some way. Some stages, especially the ones where you’re trying to find the mini-figures, are actually pretty challenging and if you’re not on top of your game you will fail missions. Though the story takes some really odd turns and may turn things a bit too uncomfortable for some people there’s also a notable effort to try to make something out of the hodge podge of ideas and themes in the game, again doing a better job than I would have imagined for a game like this. Gal*Gun 2 is by no means a by-the-numbers thin veneer of a game on top of a bunch of pervy and weird stuff, which it likely could have gotten away with. Instead it is a middle-of-the-road game with decent mechanics that just happens to have a bunch of stuff that you wouldn’t want to be caught playing in public or by any of your loved ones. It’s very actively not a game that’s appropriate for everyone but I give it credit for indeed being a legitimate game in its own right.”

“Gal*Gun 2 is a very shallow game that has a decent story underneath some braindead gameplay.”

“Gal*Gun 2 will once again grab the headlines for all the wrong reasons, but what those will fail to tell you is that the underlying experience isn't worth any sort of price to begin with. Once the perverse novelty wears off, you're left with a bare-bones shooter that sorely needs to come off the rails it is tied to if it wants to create any excitement.”

“I'm not trying to be a social justice warrior here; I'm just saying that poking at the half-naked bodies of minors is creepy. The rest of the game is fine, and maybe there's a dialogue tree that avoids those creeper parts; I don't know. If that stuff makes you uneasy, I'd avoid this waifu game.”

“Gal*Gun 2 doesn't really break any new ground and can feel a little easy. But its simple game play and goofy moments can make it deceptively addicting. An overall good time to be had.”
