How this trust score was computed
Trust blends alignment (40%): does the outlet rank games the way players do; decoded accuracy (30%): after translating the outlet's own scale habits (a '7/10 means mediocre' scale is decoded, not punished), how well its reviews predict player sentiment; and player-side (30%): on games where press consensus and players sharply disagreed, whose side it took. Recent reviews weigh more (2-year half-life), and the blend is shrunk toward a neutral prior (60) so small samples can't peg the scale. Player quality is launch-window Steam sentiment, so outlets aren't punished for reviewing a launch build that later got patched.
Controversy record: on 12 games where press consensus and players sharply disagreed, this reviewer sided with players 1 time.

- 84Phantom DoctrineSep 8, 2018 · Chris Lewis
“Overall, Phantom Doctrine is an admirable exploration of Cold War espionage, using and improving upon the core gameplay offered by the XCOM series. If you loved that franchise, you will love this: Playing Phantom Doctrine just feels so satisfying, with a wide variety of options at your disposal when initiating and conducting missions. If they had a reference document in-game for those times you miss the pop-up windows, I'd have given this game a higher score. As is, I'll still be playing this for a fair while to come.”

“So, all things considered, what do I think of SNK Heroines: Tag Team Frenzy? Quite honestly, SNK Heroines: Tag Team Frenzy is about as enjoyable as the sticky, faded, musky magazines (Possibly) under your bed. It smells off, controls a bit weird, and probably should have been thrown out a while ago; there may be some sort of value in keeping it for sentimental reason, but in the end of the day, it’s just another ‘sexy’ fighting game for fans to gush over, even if, at it’s core, it’s nothing more than a subpar offering of cobbled together content.”

“In the end, I’d say that Yakuza Kiwami 2 is still a decent game that has a lot going for it, but I really hope that for the next remake or entry in the series they improve upon everything about the Dragon Engine if they plan on keeping it around, as well as changing up the design choices regarding how you level up and improve your character.”

“Without giving away too much, Night in the Woods comprises of incredibly dark moments, an exploration of topics like economic depression, mental health, religion and growing up, lots of interesting and fun sides and funny moments. I feel the characters are really well developed and a lot of thought has been put into their backstories, and fleshing out their personalities. The game itself is aesthetically pleasing with a hand drawn cartoony feel and gameplay is really smooth. Where I feel the game could have improved is towards the end, where you find out what’s been going on the whole time and it all happens all very fast and at once. For me I would have liked more here either in the form of more dialogue or just an extra bit of gameplay. Overall as a small indie game I think it’s done very well.”

“With some re-arranging of the locations we visit and the characters we encounter, the mechanics of play, and the level design, this game could have fantastic atmosphere and would have compelled me to take a deep nosedive into the ripe thematic core it presents. So my message to you is this: if the idea of ‘We Happy Few’ interested you, I’d recommend you give it a try. It’s not perfect, by any length, but it’s something I think we should all at least look at, as there are many design lessons to be learned. A great concept does not make a great game, but if you’re willing to put up with some slightly annoying level design and play with mechanics you’ve seen before, that price of entry may well be worth it if you’re wanting to experience the story it has to tell.”

“Overall, Parallel Hero’s first game is a neat puzzle title. A decent difficulty curve, influx of new challenges, fresh palettes to unlock, and a truly amazing soundtrack help make the title a great experience regardless of the mode.”

“If you haven’t already than I really cannot recommend Deus Ex: Mankind divided to you enough. With its story of conspiracy and political intrigue somehow perfectly balanced with Adam’s robo arms and ability to shoot frickin lasers. With so many explore able routes and options for dealing with situations there is plenty to keep you interested for several play throughs and even more when you crack on with new game plus!”

“I would reccomend Insane Robots to anyone who is looking to get into card games like Hearthstone. It’s quick, simple and to me is like a much larger tutorial to way more complicated games. I think this game served it’s purpose well and it’s fun for any audience.”

“I don’t consider this game perfect but it’s pretty damn near it. And I’ve started to rate a lot of games based off of how much I’ve enjoyed them overall while still trying to be fair with overall game design and all that.”

“Overall, Jurassic World: Evolution is a pretty neat game, marred by a few bad design decisions. Although not the deepest park simulator out there, building your own Jurassic Park is too good of a temptation to pass up, and as more content is added over time, the experience is likely to improve more and more. Certainly a fun way to waste a few hours here and there.”

“Overall I didn’t really have a good time with Anima: Gate of Memories – The Nameless Chronicles. It was way too boring and easy for a game that tries to mix RPG elements with Bayonetta & Devil May Cry – The gameplay was a slog and the story was mediocre; the only things I found interesting at most were the art style for the most part and the music.”

“So all things considered, I had a pretty great experience with his game. The gameplay can get somewhat repetitive and there are some things here and there which can play to Milanoir’s strengths… But also it’s weaknesses. The fun characters of Milanoir and their interactions with each other, the fun and dumb world established in this game, and the environments explored is what made it for me.”

“Anyways, I’ve rambled on long enough; so whats the verdict? Well, I think for the fun romp it is, Gal Gun sure has a lot more to offer from it’s previous entry. I think that if this series wants to go on, however, it needs to just have better feeling gameplay to keep people engaged… And though the story isn’t something Shakespearean, it certainly gets the job done in a silly and harmless manner.”

“Vampyr is a game marred by a mediocre combat system, but you know what? I don’t care – It’s the first game in a long time that made me think Vampires are cool again, with an incredibly interesting story that has me unable to stop thinking about what’s happening next.”

“So overall I’d say the this collection did an amazing job at bringing arcade perfect ports to the latest console generation as well as preserving some amazing history through the design docs, art work etc. The main issue being the online is a little wonky right now can hopefully be fixed. If that happens we have a really special collection, which I’ll be playing for hours on end regardless.”
