The story, however, relies on familiar battle shonen tropes and forgettable characters, serving mostly as a backdrop for the action. The extraction-based gameplay creates plenty of tension and rewarding moments, especially for fans of the genre. However, confusing systems, poor onboarding, and an underdeveloped narrative make it difficult to recommend to a wider audience. Marathon is a solid extraction shooter with clear strengths, but its niche appeal and steep learning curve hold it back from greatness.”
